The main cast wanted to move on to other things, which I guess after 8 seasons is understandable. What surprised me about this article, was that Beth Howland (Vera) was one of the most vocal wanting to leave. She wanted to do another series and get away from doing Vera. She ended up being typecast and hardly acted again...

Interesting article. When your series can only boast of Emmy nominations for Outstanding Tape Sound Mixing and Outstanding Video Tape editting, it's time to call it quits.

That show stayed on two seasons too long. The 7th season, the one with Joel Grey guest starred, was showing its age and should had went off then. The 9th season was bad and it was to a point only 16 episodes were filmed. Linda Lavin was going through the motions of doing the 9th season.

I just finished watching all 9 nine seasons of Alice tonight! It took a long time, I got stalled in seasons 6 & 7 for many months. Those are the weakest seasons IMO. Season Nine was actually not as bad as some of the previous later years. The finale was silly and short and not well planned or written....I'm surprised that Beth Howland wanted to leave since her character showed the most improvement in the last 2 seasons. I don't remember seeing Alice's apt. at all in the last season but Vera & her husband had a nice home

All 9 seasons from where? You purchased them from a trader?
