Does anyone know when exactly MTM was cancelled? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Did MTM go into the 7th season knowing it would be their last, or was it cancelled a few months into the final season?

At the very minimum it would have to have been cancelled early in the season. That would give time to write a final episode and for Gavin MacLeod to auditon for the Love Boat since that show started the following year.

The cast went in knowing it was the final season. I'm getting my information from the "Biography Channel Special: The Mary Tyler Moore Show. " In the show, the cast members talk about how hard it was knowing that it was their last season.

Did the audience know going into Season 7 that it was to be the final season?

My memory of things (as a 12 year old in 1976) is that it was openly publicized that the seventh season would be the last.
