I agree. I don't think these cards are going to go over. Hallmark missed the mark on this one.

If you want to provide comfort tosomeone out of a job, take the time to write a nice personal note. Or better yet: visit them, treat them to something like a meal, movie or gift.

I didn't think that was so bad. Many greeting cards are suppose to be funny. I just hope the boss of the job wouldn't send you the card. I was more shocked at the title of this post "What the #### is wrong with Hallmark." That I don't like, swearing in a card.

Hey...I have friends who work at their competition...American Greetings!

I hope they (American Greetings) don't have insensitive cards.

There are some occasions that call for a greeting card and others that just don't. Losing your job is one of those occasions that doesn't call for a greeting card. A hug or a shoulder to cry on would be far more appropriate. Or as Rich said treat the person to a movie or dinner, or perhaps a bag of groceries.

It's kind of strange how it's acceptable to give someone a sympathy card when they suffer the loss of a loved one, a pet; but not a job. I agree with everyone, just saying. Death is so final while the loss of a job impacts everything in our lives, right down to the food on our dinner table. Then again, much the same can be said when someone loses a spouse, especially a woman with children. I'm all over the place with this. My husband said it's simple. A person can get another job while people can't be replaced.

I think that if you want to comfort someone who has lost their job, a handwritten note is probably more effective than a card that blatently says "Im sorry for your job loss"

I have a feeling that this new Hallmark card may affect the relationship between me and my mom because she is the type of person who would buy this card and think she is doing something right.

If she sends something like that I don't think I can speak to her again

I won't be surprised that they'll have Divorce Cards or anti-sympathy cards.

I've seen divorce cards before. All about new beginnings, and when one door closes, another one opens; that sort of thing. I know they have cancer cards. The Hallmark Store near me has an entire area for breast cancer related items, all with the pink ribbon theme. Cards, stationary, gift bags, a glass angel figurine. A friend/neighbor of mine had breast cancer last year, and I bought her the works there. She seemed to really appreciate it.

They're really trying to branch out and make cards for occasions (bad choice of words I know) that were never addressed before but I do like the idea of a breast cancer card. I think it would be a little insensitive to send someone who has that a "get well soon" card, but that's just my opinion. My mom has breast cancer, and I don't think she'd want a card like that, even though the person means well.

On a brighter note, I used to work at a Hallmark store back in 1993/94 and people used to come in all the time asking if we had Groundhog Day cards!

Actually I wish they did!

And just in general, sending out a canned card for anything is pretty much a cop out. Whatever happened to handwritten notes (in a nice blank note card) or on stationery?

Or at the very least, a handwritten paragraph in the canned card.
