Jeff Conaway died from multiple causes, from Aortic valve problems to pneumonia ... this according to the L.A. County Coroner. And, the Coroner says, his death at 60 was an accident.

Among the causes

-- Septic Emboli ... an infected arterial blockage
-- Aortic Valve Endocarditis ... heart valve infection
-- Coronary Artery Disease
-- Pneumonia
-- Encephalopathy ... brain disorder resulting from drug overdoses

It sounds like Jeff died largely from what a lot of addicts die from...long term self-abuse. I'm not a doctor but a lot of these things seem to stem from a very bad lifestyle over a long period of time.

Drug and alcohol abuse, probably poor eating and exercise and sleep habits, etc. Please don't misunderstand me, I feel much sympathy for him and his family; my own brother essentially died of self-abuse about five years ago. It just seems that in light of all his problems it didn't make much sense to call it anything but self-inflicted.

It's interesting how often pneumonia is a huge factor in people's deaths, too.

I am so sorry to hear about your brother retro.

I also heard of people dying from addiction while being clean. I guess there body goes haywire and they convulse and die.

Thanks, Brian. It was a very wrenching situation to go through, and such a tragic waste. People who haven't lived through the horrors of substance abuse really don't know how bad it can get, and it gets BAD.

As far as your second point, yes, my brother had many seizures AFTER he went on benders, during short periods of sobriety. His body went through withdrawal and was so used to the alcohol in his blood that it reacted when it wasn't there.

It just seems like Jeff was a ticking time bomb - with the heart issues, especially. What a shame - and a waste.

Exactly so CatLover79, I am suprised that you are shocked about this so maybe you should do some research on what drugs does to the body so you will not be shocked in the future when somebody died from substance abuse for many years when the cause of death is:
