Default Did anyone else see?

Did anyone else watch Entertainment Tonight this afternoon? They did one of those "Where are they Now" things. Part of it was about the DVDS and what went on behind the scenes such as DVD's drinking and the jealousy that Rose Marie had towards Mary. They also talked about what happened to the stars after the show went off the air. They mentioned both Dick and Mary's sobriety and how Mary lost some of her family members and how Morey passed away.

I didn't see it, but it sounds good. Maybe I can catch it some time if they repeat it. Thanks for telling us about it.

Angry I missed it!

I would've loved to have seen it! I'm surprised Rose Marie was jealous of Mary. Was it because Mary's younger and prettier? That would seem kind of silly to me. They're two very different types of women. Or did she feel Mary got more air time? There were plenty of episodes centered around Sally.

Rose Marie was jealous of Mary because when Rose Marie signed to do the show, she thought that she would be the female lead. But as the chemistry between DVD and MTM heated up, the writers started focusing the show more on Rob's home life then office life.

It is noticeable that many of the first season's shows were centered on what was happening at the office. Towards the end of the first season and then through the rest of the series, the shows centered more on Rob's home life.

So although Rose Marie still had a significant part, Mary had a bigger one then she did, and that made her jealous. They never fought or had disagreements, but they were never good friends. It's only been in later years that Rose Marie admitted that she was jealous of Mary's success.

Your welcome If you want to learn more about behind the scenes, I'd recommend that you find a copy of TV Land's Inside TV The Dick Van Dyke Show that they produced in 2000 or The Official Dick Van Dyke Show Book by Vince Waldron. Both have just about anything you would want to know about the show, especially the book.

Thumbs up

I agree with Christina about the TV Land special. It was a wonderfully informative feature about the show, and well worth watching for any DVD fan.

Now, *IF* we ever see the DVD on DVD promised to us months and months ago, supposedly the TV Land Special will be a part of the package. But, that's another story. Your best bet is to keep an eye on the TV schedule and see when TV Land might show it again. I would imagine they will show it at some point this year.

Umm actually whoever said that she was jealous of Mary because she was younger and prettier was right, too. Rose Marie admitted to it on the show. I thought it was very big of her to do that.

Your right about that. I happen to see that on 'Entertainment Tonight' as well. Rose Marie words were "Mary was prettier than I was, thinner than I was, and younger than I was and isn't that enough to be jealous." Rosie Marie also said something about how she's seen what what tough times Mary has been through and says mary is a strong person.(to do with the deaths of her family) ..............I too think that was very big and honest of her to say that. =)
