Crazy Niles Loves dApHnE... REALLY NOW?

What if Rosie Perez did get the roll of Daphne? She was the first serious consideration for the roll.

WOW, I just couldn't see the romance depicted the way Jane Leeves did with DHP.

Image supplied from a photo...

NEW YORK--Rosie Perez and David Hyde Pierce are to star in the world premiere production of Molly Smith Metzler's "Close Up Space," Manhattan Theatre Club officials said.

All I gotta say is thank goodness for small miracles! No offense to Rosie Perez, but she would have been all wrong for the role.

I like Rosie too, but you are so right.

Rosie appears in one episode... I think it is in season 11.

I think it's hard to imagine anyone playing certain characters when you're used to seeing one person play the character.

For example it's hard to picture anyone other than MJF playing Alex Keaton.
I can't imagine someone other than Jane Leeves playing Daphne. The same could be said for the rest of the Frasier cast, imo.

Very true, but sometimes the casting falls into place like it was meant to be. Once in a while, on other shows or movies, you can notice that it would have worked much better with a different casting.

I agree with all of you! I couldn't have seen anyone but Jane play the role of Daphne. I wouldn't have been the same had Rosie gotten the part of Daphne. The chemistry between DHP and Jane was amazing. The episode that Rosie Perez appeared in was Crock Tales as Roz's friend.
While we are on the subject, Lisa Kudrow was originally given the part of Roz but then after they saw Lisa actually play the part, she didn't really have what they were looking for. Peri was their second choice and after she had been told she didn't get the part, she got a call saying they had changed their minds and she got the part! I couldn't see anyone else playing Roz besides Peri anyway.
I think of Lisa as Phoebe from friends anyway. Thank goodness for small miracles like Brian Damage said!

OMG, given the fact that I can't stand Rosie Perez for the most part (although she was good in the episode she was annoying though!), I definitely wouldn't have watched the show if she had been cast as Daphne. Her accent is just irritating. Jane's is adorable and I love to listen to her talk. I just can't picture her in the role of Daphne because she seems too "edgy". Daphne had a lot of sweetness about her that would be lost if Rosie had taken the role. Actually same goes for Peri vs Lisa Kudrow as Roz. Lisa looks too young to play Roz actually although it would be interesting to see what it would be like. Still I think the show is perfect the way they cast everyone!

While I'm sure Rosie Perez is talented, I'm not a fan at all, either. I'm positive I would never have watched the show even if the other four characters were cast the same as they are now. And I'm not saying that because of Rosie Perez, I'm saying that because of Jane Leeves. I think she brings something unique and special to that show that makes it not like anything else we've seen before. She's like the sparkling jewel in the crown! I also think it would have been a very hard sell for the writers to get us to believe Niles would have fallen for the character as played by Rosie Perez, unless she played it differently than the way she plays most of her characters, or if the Niles character was played entirely differently. They probably would not have pursued that storyline at all, and then it would have been a whole different show, and probably one that wouldn't have lasted past about 6 or 7 seasons, because I happen to think that Niles and Daphne's relationship and storylines were a huge driving force for the last 4 seasons. I think if it had been Rosie Perez, what would make more sense is for Niles to be annoyed with her all the time, more like the relationship he had with Roz. Would they have had Niles fall for Roz then? That would have shifted Roz and Frasier's entire relationship then... and see what I mean? Whole different show.

**Although, as long as I'm in an alternate universe, I have to add... I could ALMOST see Niles falling for Roz if Lisa Kudrow had played Roz. I would never want it that way, but I think that would have to be the most believable alternative I could come up with... Rosie Perez in Jane's role, and Lisa Kudrow in Peri's role, with their relationships with Niles switched around.

My thoughts exactly! I'm not a fan of Lisa Kudrow either, but I could see Niles and her version of Roz hooking up. I still say that I wish Bulldog and Roz could have become a true couple because I thought they were awesome together!
