If there is a Mary Tyler Moore biopic, I nominate Ellie Kemper from the show The Office to play the role, because to me the women look alike. Especially the lyric " She can turn the World on with her smile." Erin does that.
I think from the wikipedia pic, they look alike. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ellie_Kemper http://www.google.com.hk/search?hl=e...og&sa=N&tab=wi (Excuse the long link, pictires of Ellie.) Oddly I would have Ed Helms play Dick Van Dyke, unless someone else was available. It seems to me that DVD is taller and lankier than Hekms. But is could not be Helms because of The Office connection. .But it could work. ted Baxter? Maybe done lovingly and approval from Ted Knight's family. Lou Grant? Why not Ed Asner himself? He hasn't changed much (LOL). I just think if Erin Kemper is a competant enough actress and could do the mannarisms of MTM, it could be good. MTM like the rest of us normal people, had problems, had bad things happen to her and I wouild think would be interesting. I think a Mary biopic would be fascinating if the stars were right. After Marilyn Monroe, I find Mary Tyler Moore the most beutiful of the generation (yea, Kim Novak, don't go all Mad Men on me). Am I the first dude who thinks so? I doubt it. |

Ellie certainly could be as good a choice as any, if she were able to get the mannerisms, speech, etc., down.
And I think Mary Tyler Moore was the most beautiful woman of her generation -- and it wasn't even close! |

If you need a teenage version of MTM, try the kid who plays the lead in ICarly. My daughter is always watching that show and one day I noticed how much she looks like a jr. version of MTM.

I just stumbled upon this forum and thought I'd give it a bump. Mainly because I thought I was the "ONLY" one who seen the comparisons between MTM and Ellie Kemper. So much so that about a year ago I put together a little video compilation of media files in a small little movie which (in a small way) demonstrates that comparison. I think for me it was mostly the lyrics of the song which connected so well to Ellie.
The video is on YouTube: http://youtu.be/IhlDvgsf8MI |
