Confused TV Guide Thinks 'The Middle' Is Underrated....Do You???

The ABC comedy's Wednesday stablemate Modern Family won Emmys in every eligible category over the weekend, while Patricia Heaton's Indiana clan didn't earn a single nomination. What the Heck? Maybe because the show takes place in the middle of the country (hence the title) and centers on an old-fashioned nuclear family, it's not considered edgy enough for Emmy. But The Middle is every bit as funny, well-acted — and modern — as Family.

The third-season opener wittily reunited Heaton with her Everybody Loves Raymond hubby Ray Romano, who guested in a flashback as Mike's nudnik ex-high-school classmate who nearly ruined his honeymoon with Heaton's Frankie. In one of several clever in-jokes, Romano told Heaton, "You know, in an alternate universe, you and I could've been very happy together." And in another alternate universe, the Emmys could've gone mad for The Middle and Romano's Men of a Certain Age, and I would've been very happy.

The Middle is very underrated. It's my second favorite network sitcom (Ater TBBT). I like the entire cast and think it's very funny and it always makes you feel good after the show is over. IMO that makes it a great show.

Yes, I do. I like both shows, but I usually have more laugh out loud moments from The Middle than Modern Family.

The Middle is absolutely hilarious. Much as I hated to see Back to You cancelled, we wouldn't have gotten Patty Heaton to head up the crazy Heck family. Tell the truth, I like Frankie Heck a LOT better than either Debra Barone or Kelly Carr. Actually, I like the entire Heck family a LOT better than the Barones!!!

I don't know that I prefer them to the Barones, but they're a very different kind of family living a very different kind of life. I don't necessarily think you can compare the two!

Having said that, I'm glad to have THE MIDDLE in my life. Is it the best show out there? No, but it's comfort television. It might get predictable, but it's silly fun, and it's a show I love saving on my DVR to watch on weekends.

...in USA TODAY a few days ago, also sang his praises for the show, and wondered why it wasn't making more of a "buzz"...or earning any Emmy nominations.
{well, he's a TV critic...}

Yea I agree. I like Modern Family but I always enjoy the Middle so much more. I just wish it would get the emmy nominations that Modern Family gets.

I am in agreement also. I prefer the Middle much more than Modern Family. I watch both each week, but sometimes MF has mediocre episodes or seems to be over the top.

The middle does get decent ratings, but it should be getting more attention or at least as much attention as MF.

Just got into this show...surprised at how funny it is! I really like it. Definitely more enjoyable than Modern Family which has hit a wall this season.

I'm enjoying this show a lot too. At first I couldn't warm up to most of the supporting cast, but I'm liking them more and more. It's well done and always entertains.
