Default Darlie Routier's husband files for divorce

The husband of death row inmate Darlie Routier said Friday that he and his wife are divorcing to move on from the "limbo" they've been in since her arrest and conviction for killing one of their sons.

Darin Routier told The Associated Press that the decision to divorce was mutual and "very difficult," and that he still believes his wife is innocent. His attorney filed the divorce papers Wednesday in Lubbock, where he lives with their youngest son, Drake, who is 15.
"It doesn't change the fact that we still believe what we believe," he said. "You have to separate the tragedy from the marriage. Do you know anyone who would have waited 15 years? So it doesn't change anything."

Darin is quoted in the article as saying that he has no plans to get remarried, so it's kinda strange that they would bother going through the divorce. There's always been some speculation that Darin was in on these murders and that Darlie was covering for him, which, if true, makes the divorce a pretty ballsy move. Darlie might be less compelled to stay silent about certain things if they're no longer married. Just a strange situation all around.

I wouldn't be surprised if she begins to maintain innocence and suddenly has a "recollection" of Darin being the one on top of her, or something else along the lines of pointing the finger at Darin after their divorce is finalized.

I still dont know what I think about this case, though I would lean towards there was an intruder. I've watched this segment dozens of times and the thing I don't get is among all of the uncertainty why is she being sentenced to death? Usually when there is circumstantial evidence , it's life no parole. I suppose the silly string video is what did it.

I am aware of the other stuff eg the bloody sock, the spot of blood on her back, but there is quite a bit of evidence to an intruder. The screen window argument for the state is rubbish, they effed that crime scene up bad. Plus didn't they find a latent fingerprint?

Kinda OT, but after the backlash from the Troy Davis execution last night, I doubt Darlie Routier is going to be executed anytime soon. I tend to think she committed the murders, but even if she did, I think there's going to be a reluctance to execute anyone now if there's ANY doubt about their guilt.

If I recall, there wasn't any question of Davis's guilt, apparently he definitely killed a cop. The big to-do was his sentence of execution was based on prosecutors using fear and race to convince the jury not to let him just get life no parole.

Darin's finger prints were not found on anything relevant to the crime scene. Now that they're divorced though there is a possibility of this turning into a he said, she said

I really hope the Troy Davis does not have a negative effect on the death penatly in this country, although I do believe there was enough reasonable doubt in Davis' case where I don't think he should have been excecuted and probably should have had more oppurtunities for him to be considered for a new trial.

But what I hope doesn't happen is that Troy Davis will serve as a means to get true scumbags off who really do deserve the death penalty.

I agree, if he thinks she is innocent and wants to stand by her, and has no intention of getting remarried why get a divorce? I would think you would want to stand by eachother in every possible way if you thought your family got railroaded amid all the grief of losing children. Makes no sense to me.

I don't think it will lead to guilty people going free. I think the backlash over Troy Davis will lead to Death Row inmates not being executed if there are enough questions about their guilt. Because it's an irreversible mistake, if someone's imprisoned and it's later found out they're innocent, they can be released, if they're executed, nothing can happen.

I think Darlie Routier won't get executed. But I don't think that it has anything to do with Troy Davis, I think it's a situation like Tommy Zeigler. The state won't do it because of the backlash. Granted Routier is on Death Row in Texas, but it is a big case, and there are questions about her guilt.

There's always going to be a stir anytime there's a possible execution because there are groups out there that oppose the death penalty. Tack on the fact that some of the death row inmates maintain their innocence, and you have a huge recipe for backlash/disaster.

If she thinks she's never going to get out, maybe she told her husband to try and move on. I don't think that idea is far fetched. He might not have plans now to get remarried, but maybe he wants to start dating. I'm sure he's lonely and has been for years.

If that were to happen she is at the most lying and at the very least complicit if the killer is Darin.

What most people don't know is Darin was suspected first by the police of having committed this crime, but no evidence could be found against him.

Darin's statements were always consistant with his movements. Unlike Darlie who lied everytime evidence found was incriminating.

There's a lot of blood evidence..all of it at odds with the story Darlie told--well she's told numerous stories about what happened that night.

As much as we don't want it to be, Darlie is the killer of those two beautiful boys.

Took him long enough. Any updates on how they're pursuing this case still?

Darin has been dating for years. And it's been years since he's visited her on DR.

Their marriage was on the rocks prior to the killings.
