Forget That 'The Simpsons' Are Animated; Is This Really 1 Of The Greatest Shows Ever?

"South Park" co-creator Trey Parker once wrote an episode titled " 'Simpsons' Already Did It," paying tribute to the longevity of Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and the other denizens of Springfield. The episode aired … nearly a decade ago. "The Simpsons" is now entering its 23rd season and early next year, probably during sweeps, will air its 500th episode. Its success paved the way for primetime animated series such as "King of the Hill," "Family Guy," "Futurama" and, yes, "South Park," showing there was a huge adult audience hungry for irreverent humor unshackled by the limitations of the live-action format. Best. Show. Ever? One could make the argument.

Well, it's pretty hard to forget that The Simpsons is animated. For one thing (for better or worse), the kids Bart, Lisa and Maggie will always remain the same age .. unlike their counterparts in every live-action sitcom.
This can be seen as both an advantage and a disadvantage. It strains crediblilty when watching a rerun from, say, a decade (or even two decades) ago when there are pop culture references that little Bart and Lisa would not
comprehend today. That wouldn't be a problem with a live-action sitcom, in
which the characters mature, as in real life. Ground-breaking show? Certainly. But I think, in some ways, its very longevity has perhaps worked against it.

For Longevity...yes, even Hank Azaria lost himself on having a new voice.

Hey...even though I can't stand "The Simpsons", I will give them the benefit of doubt on a show that I would like to launch on Adult Swim one day (Yes, it'll be animated and I would also like to use a Hanna-Barbera character in it...and no, it isn't Space Ghost or Peter Potamous since they were already in shows, but Space Ghost may make a cameo) which will be called "Bertstown" and it'll be Adult Swim's answer to "The Simpsons".
