Emotional UM moments

[1990 UM fan]

Here are ones that got to me:

- In the Kimberly Pandelios episode when they played the dramatic music as Kimberly raised her head and made eye contact with Jeff.
- In the Angela Hammond episode when Rob's car dies as he turns the corner to chase down the truck Angela was in.
- In the Patricia Stallings episode where the parents broke down in their interviews talking about their son Ryan's death.
- In the Victoria Doroshenko episode where they announced that her dog Harley had died from an undisclosed illness.
- In the Philip Innes Fraser episode when his mother cries in her interview.
- The episode about the deaf girl who was treated poorly by her mom and stepdad and wanted to be with her biological father (I forget the girl's name).
- The episode about Candy Gaither, the terminally ill woman who was visited by her sister Roxy who had died 13 years before.
- In the episode about Dr. Gregory Caplinger where one of his patients, who was dying because of the botched treatment, told his wife he wanted to go home and wanted to see his son.
- The episode about Jodi Huisentruit, an Iowa anchorwoman who was abducted in June of 1995.
- The episode about Christophe Day, where his father tried desperately for 15 years to reunite with him only to find out Christophe had died from leukemia at age 18.

There is more but I can't think of anything else at the moment.

When they interviewed Jennifer Pratt in the segment and she says something to the effect of, "I don't know why they would do this to me" always got to me. Especially the state she was in because of the attack. Same with the marine (can't recall his name right now) who was attacked at a party and was forced to use canes to walk.

The Victor Simon story always got to me.

When they show him at this graduation, when they pronounced his name correctly for the first time, and no one was there for him it just breaks your heart. All he wanted was for SOMEONE from his real family to share that moment with him.

It makes you realize that death, injury, crime are all sad but lonliness can be just as hard on people. I always felt bad for that poor guy.

Oh my god, the segment with Sharon Stevens looking for Bill and Cynthia Zelinsky. The reunion brought tears to my eyes, something that rarely ever happens when I watch television (second to Jaclyn Smith literally breaking down in tears during the Farrah's Story documentary) Apparently both Zelinsky's are still alive...but I am not sure is Sharon is.

I noticed....pretty much any of these segments can be heartbreaking, especially if you are someone who knows or was close to whomever is being profiled. It's especially sad to see the episodes from the 80's and early 90's when the family members practically break down because they just want their loved one to be found/reunited.

I got a new one! Laharriet Wade and Sharita in the hospital. Oh my god, just the love and friendship they had for each other. And the part where Laharriet goes over to Sharita and tells her everything will be fine...and when they cut back to Laharriet talking about the experience you can see tears fill up in her eyes...are they both still around today?

that one also touches my heart. As far as I know they're both still alive.

-During the Lisa Ziegert case, Lisa's mother speaks of how Lisa's students had to learn that life isn't always fair and how Lisa's death is an example. The atmosphere of the scene was quite sad. It makes it even sadder when one of her students said she wishes there were more people like Lisa in the world. Sad...

-In the Nyleen Marshall case, Nyleen's mom states that when she's out in public, she'll look like she's happy but in actuality, she's searching for her daughter.

-At the end of the Gus Hoffman case, Gus' mother pleads for the viewers to help her find her son's remains. Painful to watch.

Lots of cases have hit emotionally.

Katie Juratovich missing with no known heirs (although according to UM wiki some long distant relative stepped forward). Just showed her as very lonely and sad.

Victoria Doroshenko. Her daughter wrote back and said she is still in and out of the hospital but doesn't have seizures anymore or a service dog, just a silky terrier and her life is "more than normal". This was a case about dogs that could predict when a medical problem might occur etc. It's on forbidden site..

Luxci, the mute woman who may not have been mute after all, but nonethless, last seen in northern California, missing for many years.

Lorrainne Zimmerman, case shown in spotlight on Dorothy Allison..

Lots of others though.

There are so many to name, but here's a few that stuck with me:

The journalist who was told his biological mother didn't want him when in fact she did. She found him and called him up and he hung up on her. Luckily, he realized what he had been told was a lie and they did end up reuniting. The reunion was quite touching.

The one about the kids who were taken away due to their dad being an alcoholic and beating their mom all the time. When the story was aired, I think all of them had found each other but one was still missing.The story was extremely sad but at least most of them did end up finding each other.

Joey Ross, who was kidnapped by his controlling father but he was found and returned to his mother. The scene of him meeting his baby sister for the first time was really sweet. Hopefully he grew up and well and continued to have a good relationship with his mom, stepdad and sister.

Young Sun Kim, the Korean divorcee who was swindled by her roommates, when she started crying and saying how much they hurt her...it was really sad. She was lonely and wanted support during her divorce and she was taken advantage of...at least those two were caught.

Is this the one about the two young African American girls, one of whom is looking for the other years later so she can name her child after her? If so, I clicked on this for the sole purpose of posting about that one. I hate to say it, but I almost cried during this one.

Just to add:

-It was hard to watch Dustin Johnston in the Dennis Smith case. His mother was killed by that monster and you can see how his loss had affected him.

I watched that case for the first time months back and it got to me.

I read more recently that it's likely two guys who worked at a carpet store right near the card shop where Lisa worked were the men responsible for her rape and murder. I guess one of them was found to be involved in illegal activities (either drug dealing or something to do taking money illegally, I can't remember exactly) and also that shortly after her murder, one or both of them moved to Hawaii (or out of the country).

- Frank and Theresa Wilson (ghost segment) when is ghost shows up and asks their daughter to write his wife a birthday message- when she reads it in the memory book...that always make me tear up!
- Karen Walker- an only child with plans to marry a man named Jim but she died of agressive cancer 2 days before she was to be married so sad! Her parents see a psychic and Karen comes through telling them she has no more pain and that they should go on with their lives
-Lauria Bible's parents- when they stated that Lauria had put the xmas tree up before she disappeared and they hadn't taken it down yet....
-Brook Baker's mother, Janet, how sad and fragile she was talking about how much they all missed Brook and how she want justice.
-Dave Bocks daughter when she speaks on behalf of her family and talks about her dad and how they can't give him a proper burial because his bone fragments, the only parts that are left of him, are sealed on the plants site..too toxic to be buried in the ground
