Mentions these two were caught as a result of UM. I wonder if a full update ever aired beyond that little blurb that used to air on Lifetime. DD, if you read this, do you think this could be one of our unidentified captures from the 3rd anniversary show? Perhaps the guy I first thought was Steven Cox? The age seems about right. |

However, your mention of them got me thinking. I'm pretty sure that update about the horse killers never aired on Lifetime. In fact, I don't think the Lifetime version of the segment contained any update at all so one watching could surmise the crimes were never solved. On the sea lion story, there was a brief update indicating that two men pleaded no contest to charges relating to the slaying of the sea lion killed with the seal bomb. A former poster who once alleged they were retired law enforcement stated that once a person was convicted of a misdemeanor, their name could no longer be mentioned in the press. I personally can't attest to the validity of that statement, so I'm merely re-iterating here. This all leads me to the following... Perhaps a full update segment was prepared about the outcome of the sea lion case and just perhaps footage or mugshots of the two accused was shown. However, once these men entered their respective pleas to dispose of the charges and those charges became convictions on record, their names couldn't be mentioned. Ergo when the segment was syndicated on Lifetime, this full update, pre-conviction, disappeared, and all we were left with was the quick blurb about the two, now unnamed, men being convicted. Just a thought. |

Hmmmm, so I'm guessing these two were never charged with killing Bruno and that his death still officially remains a mystery? Kinda disturbing that different people would feel compelled to murder two different sea lions within such a short period of time.

I was raised in this city and it's so surreal to see you guys talking about it! I am sorry to say that by the time I was old enough to go down to the pier, people were no longer chummy with the sea lions or feeding any of them. I still don't understand what would motivate people to hurt innocent sea lions. The reenactments of the sea lions in pain actually really get to me and are difficult to watch.

I would have to agree, it was disturbing that someone would do this. For some reason, I got the strange vibe that these two idiots were trying to "top" the Bruno killing when they targeted Bobo. Thankfully UM only did a few stories about animals. It's kind of strange if you think about it. Obviously, the murder of a human is far worse. For some reason though, those few animal stories seemed way more disturbing and actually carried more of an emotional punch, for me at least. |

The fact these two adorable Sea Lions were named Bruno and Bobo just makes me even more sad. I mean who the *beep* would actually want to kill a cute Sea Lion?? it just boggles my mind.
Wasn't one of them fed a firecracker or some explosive device? that is just plain cruel. :/ |

This is a segment that is hard to get through without tearing up. But that article is even more heartbreaking involving Bruno's death. He had always trusted humans but after he was shot, he wouldn't let any humans get near him anymore...not even the ones that were trying to help him.

I believe that he languished for a long time and they couldn't figure out what was wrong with him until after he died. That article also said that he avoided people trying to help him, probably because he was injured and after being injured by a human, very afraid. It's kind of instinctual that injured animals avoid contact with help because they are afraid of predators that will take advantage of their fragile state. |

I'm still at a loss to know why anyone would want to kill a sea lion. |

Out of all the episodes I watched over the years, this case was the one that disturbed me the most. It's very saddening to know that the killer of Bruno was never caught. I believe the killers of Bobo received a suspended sentence, and a couple months in prison (there were two perpetrators).
The laws should be strengthened, when it comes to animal abuse. It is known that many who torture and kill animals, graduate to assaulting vulnerable people later on in life. |
