In the first season Dan was very conservative, almost wallpaper on the show. It wasn't until Christine became the public defender that his character changed.

What's funny if you ask me is that John Larroquette's character in the movie Stripes could've easily have been Dan Fielding if we saw him in the army. There's a scene in which "Capt. Stillman" is looking at a group of women showering via binoculars. It's incredibly hard to believe that that would be something that Dan Fielding wouldn't immediately want to do too!
