"Mad Men's" Christina Hendricks Wants To Play Wonder Woman
Christina Hendricks Is Up for Playing Wonder Woman
By Gary Susman Posted Sep 14th 2011 Christina Hendricks wants you to know she'd be perfectly happy to swap that practical gold necklace with the pen for a golden lasso. She's game to play Wonder Woman. Away from her day job on the AMC series, Hendricks' movie career is heating up. She has two films opening this weekend and a third in the can. Director Nicolas Winding Refn, wants to do a Wonder Woman film and with the Amazonian Hendricks as the superheroine. Now, Hendricks has finally responded. In an interview with New York Magazine's Vulture blog, she said of Winding Refn's offer, "I think he is such an extraordinary and exceptional director, that if he asked me to do it, I would do it in a heartbeat." Winding Refn isn't the first director to try to fit Hendricks into that eagle-adorned bustier. Joss Whedon also considered Hendricks for Wonder Woman during his abortive attempt to adapt the DC Comics title into a film. "I'd like to think that Joss would have cast me! I also loved working with Joss," she said. "Hopefully the stars would align for Wonder Woman. It would be really fun. It would be cool, wouldn't it? I'd get to kick ass." Hendricks has long wanted to try a role that would let her kick ass. "I always wanted to do a movie where I had to learn kung-fu for three months," she said in an interview last year. "Where if someone made you do it, you could do it." Of course, there's the small catch that Winding Refn isn't actually making a Wonder Woman movie, at least not yet. Warner Bros. hasn't asked him to try, though he has said that he'll get a shot at his dream project if he does well on the upcoming Warners reboot of Logan's Run. "I think someone said to me in a meeting that if I get 'Logan's Run' right, then I'll get 'Wonder Woman, I would certainly do what Nicolas wanted to do, and I can only guess what his version would be," he said last month. In any case, both the Danish director and the redheaded actress are going to be busy for some time. Refn has another drama upcoming with Ryan Gosling (Only God Forgives) plus Run, while Hendricks has a movie in the can (the comedy Struck By Lightning, which was written by "Glee" star Chris Colfer) and three more on the horizon, as well as the fifth season of "Mad Men", which is currently shooting. http://blog.moviefone.com/2011/09/14...-wonder-woman/ |
