For years I didn't watch the show because of that song. Still not a big fan of it, but glad I started to watch the show in reruns. The song really doesn't bother me any more. Good show.

The episode you're referring to is in Season 5 and it's called 'A' My Name Is Alex. It aired 3/12/1987.

"Without Us" by Johnny Mathis and Denise Williams was released in 1978, but it resurfaced in 1982 when "Family Ties" came.
