So what if the voters voted to not have Niles and Daphne get together in the series?

I guess Donny would have become a regular on the show being Daphne's husband.

Any thoughts?

It would have sucked and the show would have tanked. There are some people out there that believe the show "jumped the shark" when Niles and Daphne got together, but I disagree. The dynamic of the show changed but it didn't "jump the shark".
The fans voted for the ending they wanted and the one where Niles and Daphne run away together was the one that got the most votes.
I wouldn't have watched it if Donny and Daphne had gotten married and I couldn't stand Niles with Mel. It just wouldn't have worked, at least in my opinion.
The show lasted 4 years after Niles and Daphne got together, imagine how much longer it would have lasted had they not gotten together. Draw your own conclusions. It is something to think about though.

I think it's kind of dumb that the writers had a vote among the fans. I don't mean that in a negative way, but if you watch the segment that's on the first season DVD, the writers had been planning to get Niles and Daphne together for a long time. Of course, I for one am thrilled that it ended the way it did because honestly I don't think I'd love this show as much if it weren't for Niles and Daphne. I'm all about romance, and that's usually what draws me to a show. The fact that DHP is so adorable on his own helped a lot as well, but it was so worth watching the show seeing how Niles and Daphne evolved.
