I'd say the 80's, although many 70's sitcoms were pretty good. The 90's sitcoms S-U-C-K.

80's DEFINITELY. 90's are alright, late 70's are pretty good too but I think the 80's was the BEST decade ever in sitcoms.

70s, but a lot of 70's sitcoms ran into the 80's (Diff'rent Strokes, The Facts of Life, Three's Company) So it's a tie between 70's and the 80's.

And, and Florence Nightengale and Madam Curry. Chrissy: And Lucretia Borzok. Janet: She posioned people. Chrissy: Yeah, but she was very goo at it. |

The 80's hands down!! 70's sitcoms were too goodie goodie and the 90's are all too hard core!! I think the80's had the perfect mix!! plus the early 90's were okay too!!

Great question...and like so many others, it may depend on when you grew up. I'm trying to think of other great sitcoms of the 80s, besides "Cheers". Facts of Life was a cute show, and I liked the girls, but it was hardly the classic that a lot of people seem to be making it these days...Different Strokes wasn't that great...what shows am I missing? I'm sure Cheers wasn't the ONLY Great 80's sitcom... Well, heck I'll check the "80s" board...
Ooops, I forgot about the Cosby Show...that was good for the first few years...I enjoyed Family Ties until Andy came along...and, I did like Night Court too...I guess that's not a bad group of shows after all... I agree with several posters above that 90's sitcoms sucked for the most part, except "Seinfeld" which was fantastic! But, overall, I think the 70s was the best decade of the three...you had All in the Family (which was, IMO, a great show until Mike & Gloria moved out...that destroyed the whole premise of the show)...You had the Mary Tyler Moore Show, great for most of its run, and never really baaad...I loved the Bob Newhart Show, thought it had a great ensemble cast...I always thought MASH was overrated, but it certainly had a long and successful run...heck, I even liked Good Times, until they killed off the father. And even behind those shows, you've got the Brady Bunch, Odd Couple, One Day at a Time, Courtship of Eddie's Father (which I liked at the time, probably wouldn't now), The Jeffersons, Love American Style (see Eddie's Father)... Well, I guess it's a little tougher call than I thought...but I'll give the 70's a SLIGHT edge over the 80s...Certainly, the classics of the 70's will be around a lot longer than the classics of the 80s (since they were made 10 years earlier) :-) But I think the 70s had slightly better "depth" in their lineup. And, needless to say, the 90's finish fourth in this three team race... |

I have to give a tie between all 3 decades. I think that even the 90's has had a lot of sitcoms that i enjoy watching.
Seinfeld Home Improvement Friends Frasier Just Shoot Me Will and Grace Jesse Mad About You Cheers(ran into 90's) Drew Carey Everybody Loves Raymond Suddenly Susan Veronica's Closet Roseanne 3rd Rock from the Sun and many others that I didn't watch, but were good. |

I would have to say he 1980's there were soo many big hits. Like The Cosby show< The Golden Girls, The FActs of Life and Different Strokes and Three's Company and Cheers were from the late 70's but were Just as big in the 80's. The Gameshows were the best...Super Password, Hollywood Squares, Love Connection. But that is what I remember..when Joan rivers was the host of Tonite Show for a while, The Wavy Hair styles. The 80's by far...although I loved Here's Lucy..That was from the 70's.
