I had to bring in one of my clunkers for an inspection.
While I was waiting in their waiting room, this kid about 16 years old asked me what time it was,I pointed at the clock on the wall,He said he couldn't read it,he can only tell time with digital clocks. I told him it was a quarter to four. He asked me what does that mean ? I told him it was 15 minutes till 4 o'clock. I wonder what kind of future that boy has ? |

I wonder if telling time is something that the schools have stopped teaching. I have heard that they don't spend time teaching cursive anymore. It's a shame that the younger generation has missed out/is missing out on important things.

It seems like most kids nowadays check the time on their cell phone, computer or other electronic device. The default setting on these devices is digital. Most don't even wear a watch anymore. It's sad, but that's the way things are going.

I don't think many people even own an analogue clock anymore. We own one, but when I go to a lot of my friends' houses or relatives' houses, they don't even have one.
Most people I know though, know how to read both types. But, I guess if you grow up in a house that only has digital clocks and they don't teach it in school, then you'd never even have to worry about telling time on an analogue clock. |

I remember this place I used to work for where the son of my boss tried putting out an oil fire out with a bucket of water, after I put the fire out on him he asked " What happened ? " Another time, this kid was cutting my neighbors grass and had the mower tipped on its side and was spinning the blade by hand trying to get a bunch of string off that wrapped around it.
I told him he better disconnect the plug wire if he wants to keep his fingers. My sister's grandson told me they don't have shop class or teach basic science at his school, only english, math and computer courses. |

They stopped teaching cursive? Good! Honestly when have you ever used it except writing signatures, they say in third grade that in any grade after that you will be using cursive, we all know this is a LIE!

I've heard that some school districts have stopped teaching cursive. Personally, I think they should teach it so at least people can sign their name.
