The first thing that I would like to say is that I am very happy to see that some conversation is being stimulated on this page! I guess that peoples' interest in this show is not as dead as I thought it was! Either later tonight or tomorrow, I will probably come back and respond to some of the new posts on this page. However, for right now, I would like to commemorate the number of views of my thread titled "The Birth of Helen". Although no one has posted a response, it has now been viewed seventy-nine times. I would like to commemorate this event by pointing out the in 1979, "What's Happening!!" went off of the air. Is anyone reading this a fan of that series. I have heard it been said that a lot of people who liked "Gimme a Break!" also enjoyed "What's Happening!!". One way that they were similar is that they were both sitcoms that took place in California. On top of that, Shirley from that show was supposed to be a black woman originally from Alabama just like Nell from this show. However, that show did not try quite a hard to mix comedy with drama as did "Gimme a Break!". A lot of the issues that were dealt with quite seriously on "Gimme a Break!" were simply used as comic relief on "What's Happening!!" "What's Happening!!" also only lasted for three years. One point of view is that its true kiss of death was being shown opposite the "Waltons"! I will have to agree that the "Waltons" was pretty hard to beat!
