Does any network do these in the wee hours of the morning anymore? I remember growing up when some used to do it, but not as much anymore.

I dont consider that singing off at all. That is just a flimsy excuse to air infomercials.

I don't believe any station does this anymore. The closest thing I've seen is networks like Nick signing off for a half hour around 5:30/6AM:

I'm old enough to remember when the local stations used to sign off by playing 'The Star Spangled Banner'.

KABC used two films in their sign off in the 1970s and 80s-a poem called High Flight and a montage of people and Air Force jets set to the Star Spangled Banner played on a Moog Synthesizer with horns and percussion. To those who recall this film, it began with Mt. Rushmore and ended with Buzz Aldrin (or Neil Armstrong) on the Moon with the USA Flag zooming in until we see stars. I am aware that our local station KCOP used this film for years and other stations nationwide.
