Kyle Busch gets license suspended, fine over speeding incident

You recall the Kyle Busch speeding incident from a few months back, right? Busch made the highly questionable decision to drive all-out in a 45 mph residential area in North Carolina, eventually hitting 128 mph in a Lexus Fuji Apex.

Busch pleaded guilty to driving 128, and no contest to the charge of reckless driving. On Tuesday, an Iredell County judge handed down the sentence: loss of license for 45 days, $1,000 fine, 30 hours community service, one-year probation, and a suspended 30-day jail sentence.

To answer the immediate question: no, the loss of a driver's license will not prevent Busch from driving in NASCAR races. One does not need a valid driver's license, merely a NASCAR license, and apparently that is not at risk.

Busch's attorney, who described Busch in an automobile as "a surgeon with a scalpel," tried to cite precedent in the case, noting that in that same court, a convicted felon charged with driving 128 mph speeding and cited for reckless driving was released with only court costs of $300. Busch's case is more serious, presumably in part to mitigate any charges that local law enforcement and courts went easy on the driver because of his celebrity.
