Law & Order - Justice is Served with a 20-Year Sentence: 'The Complete Series' 100+ DVD Set Announced! Get all 20 seasons of the show in one great big package on November 8th Posted by David Lambert 8/18/2011 The Emmy-winning series Law & Order is the longest running crime series of all time and you now hold a complete collection worthy of its iconic status. This incredible set includes every powerful hour made from Law & Order's 20 years on NBC and comes with an exclusive and collectible episode guide. For twenty seasons, Dick Wolf's primetime series covered the dedicated New York City police who investigated crimes and the district attorneys who prosecuted the offenders. Known for its hard-hitting, ripped-from-the-headlines style, the series showcased the talents of numerous illustrious stars from stage, film and television. Rediscover Law & Order's intelligent writing and the riveting acting that inspired a brand of successful dramas that continues to captivate audiences around the globe. Between 2002 and 2010, Universal Studios Home Entertainment has released DVD sets of Law & Order, managing so far to put out the first 8 seasons of the show, and "The 14th Year" as well. For the last ten months there were indications that separate season sets of the 9th and 10th years were on the drawing board, but so far the studio has made no official announcement. Fans have, quite simply, grown upset at the long wait for the remainder of the legendary show's 20 seasons! This morning Universal has solved that with an announcement that on November 8th they will release Law & Order - The Complete Series, a 104-DVD collection of all 20 years of the program! Taking the disc masters from the nine seasons already released and adding the remaining eleven seasons to it on a bare-bones basis, it looks like fans can soon enjoy all 456 episodes! The cost is $699.99 SRP, which sounds like a lot of course. But let's do the math and keep it in perspective: at 104 DVDs in the set (and each one holding an average of 4 "hour-long" episodes), the $699.99 list price breaks down to just $6.73 per disc. That's far cheaper than most consumers pay for a single-disc release of a recent theatrical film which clocks in at less than half the running time. And it also breaks down to $40 per season, which is quite reasonable for an hour-long show. Plus, don't forget that the above is the LIST price; retailers (such as Amazon.com) will definitely discount it by quite a bit. Our guess (and it's just a guess!) is that the "street price" (i.e., the price you pay) is probably going to end up being closer to $500-ish (about $25 per season, and under $5 per disc). [UPDATE (8/19): Amazon.com has begun accepting pre-orders for this title. At the time of this writing their discounted price is $489.99.] Package art isn't available yet, so stay tuned for that. Below is a copy-and-paste of the details that Universal has provided to retailers this morning, breaking down the release on a season-by-season basis (note that we've added a count of how many episodes were broadcast during each season, but that's the only alteration we made). There's no word yet from the studio about plans to release the remaining eleven seasons separately. As you can see, previously-released seasons are being re-used with the same specs (notice how The 14th Year has "full screen video" as it did on its 2004 DVD set, rather than anamorphic widescreen like the seasons before and after). On the other hand, one improvement we see is that season sets which were previously released as two-sided "flipper" discs (like The 14th Year) are now on regular single-sided DVDs, with the studio simply using twice as many discs to make up the difference. The info provided by Universal shows no new bonus material, but all extras found on the previous DVD releases appears to still be present. One thing we've noticed isn't mentioned is the 9th Season special "Exiled: A Law & Order Movie"; we'll try to find out if that's included or not. In the meantime, take a look for yourself about what the studio says you'll find on this great big collection: Law & Order: The First Year 6 DVDs, 22 episodes Full Frame (1.33:1) English Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo SUBTITLES: English SDH, French, Spanish BONUS MATERIALS: The Creation of Law & Order Preview of Law & Order Interactive Game Law & Order: The Second Year 6 DVDs, 22 episodes Full Frame (1.33:1) English Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo French Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono SUBTITLES: English SDH, French, Spanish BONUS MATERIALS: Law & Order: The First Three Years Law & Order: The Third Year 6 DVDs, 22 episodes Full Frame (1.33:1) English Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo SUBTITLES: English SDH, French, Spanish BONUS MATERIALS: Jerry Orbach Tribute Jerry Orbach Profile Deleted Scenes Law & Order: The Fourth Year 6 DVDs, 22 episodes Full Frame (1.33:1) English Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo SUBTITLES: English SDH, Spanish BONUS MATERIALS: Deleted and Extended Scenes Law & Order: The Fifth Year 5 DVDs, 23 episodes Anamorphic Widescreen (1.78:1) English Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono SUBTITLES: English SDH, Spanish BONUS MATERIALS: America's Top Sleuths Law & Order: The Sixth Year 5 DVDs, 23 episodes Anamorphic Widescreen (1.78:1) English Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo SUBTITLES: English SDH, Spanish BONUS MATERIALS: Homicide: Life on the Street Crossover Episode - For God and Country Law & Order: The Seventh Year 5 DVDs, 23 episodes Anamorphic Widescreen (1.78:1) English Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo SUBTITLES: English SDH, Spanish Law & Order: The Eighth Year 5 DVDs, 24 episodes Anamorphic Widescreen (1.78:1) English Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo SUBTITLES: English SDH, Spanish Law & Order: The Ninth Year 5 DVDs, 24 episodes Anamorphic Widescreen (1.78:1) English Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo SUBTITLES: English SDH Law & Order: The Tenth Year 5 DVDs, 24 episodes Anamorphic Widescreen (1.78:1) English Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo SUBTITLES: English SDH Law & Order: The Eleventh Year 5 DVDs, 24 episodes Anamorphic Widescreen (1.78:1) English Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo SUBTITLES: English SDH Law & Order: The Twelfth Year 5 DVDs, 24 episodes Anamorphic Widescreen (1.78:1) English Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo SUBTITLES: English SDH Law & Order: The Thirteenth Year 5 DVDs, 24 episodes Anamorphic Widescreen (1.78:1) English Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo SUBTITLES: English SDH Law & Order: The Fourteenth Year 6 DVDs, 24 episodes Full Frame (1.33:1) English Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo SUBTITLES: English SDH, French, Spanish Law & Order: The Fifteenth Year 5 DVDs, 24 episodes Anamorphic Widescreen (1.78:1) English Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo SUBTITLES: English SDH Law & Order: The Sixteenth Year 5 DVDs, 22 episodes Anamorphic Widescreen (1.78:1) English Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo SUBTITLES: English SDH Law & Order: The Seventeenth Year 5 DVDs, 22 episodes Anamorphic Widescreen (1.78:1) English Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo SUBTITLES: English SDH Law & Order: The Eighteenth Year 4 DVDs, 18 episodes Anamorphic Widescreen (1.78:1) English Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo SUBTITLES: English SDH Law & Order: The Nineteenth Year 5 DVDs, 22 episodes Anamorphic Widescreen (1.78:1) English Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo SUBTITLES: English SDH Law & Order: The Twentieth Year 5 DVDs, 23 episodes Anamorphic Widescreen (1.78:1) English Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo SUBTITLES: English SDH |

A retail price tag of $700 and there are no new extras? Universal should be arrested and prosecuted!!
