"Ralph Kramden really started the formula of the fat bumbling man with the thin, capable, long-suffering wife that's been repeated ... from All in the Family to King of Queens and The Simpsons and Family Guy and all those kinds of shows," Bernstein says.
But at least hefty guys get main roles on TV — weighty women seldom do. Take it from Kirstie Alley who played herself six years ago on Showtime's Fat Actress — furious that a bigger waistline kept her from bigger parts. http://www.npr.org/2011/08/08/138958...e-small-screen

That is the one thing I hate about television and that is the myth that the fat guy can get hot thin women. The reality is that is not very likely in real life yet guys think this and one only needs to look at online profiles to see this myth is alive and well now. However, heavy men aren't really seen all that much on tv anymore either. Yes, more than overweight women, which pretty much don't exist on tv anymore, but still not as compared to the average American.
