Default After 33 years, the Go-Go’s prove that they STILL got the beat

Hey guys,

Back in the 80's, The Go-Go's consisted of Lead Singer Belinda Carlisle, Guitarist and Pianist Charlotte Caffey, Guitarist and Vocalist Jane Wiedlin, Bass Player Kathy Valentine and Drummer Gina Schock gave us such hits as "Our Lips Our Sealed", "Vacation" and their Signature Hit called "We Got the Beat" and now, The Go-Go's are in their 50's, but after 33 years, The Go-Go's Prove that they still Got the Beat

Here's the story:

After 33 years, the Go-Go’s have still got the beat
By Veda Jo Jenkins | Live Shows | August 08, 2011

Celebrating their 30th anniversary of the their double platinum album Beauty and the Beat, the Go-Go’s rocked the Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood.

The show was not sold-out but the fans who did come where there for a party. I haven’t seen the Seminole Hard Rock so alive, with people out of their seats, bopping to the music, dancing and singing, for most of the show. The credit goes to this five-member band whose energy just transferred to the fans as they played hit after hit.

The GoGo’s were the first all-girl band to both play their own instruments and write their own songs, and watching these ladies last night they are tight and they know how to play. Each one of them is an integral part of the band. The band would not be complete without Jane Wiedlin on the guitar and vocals, Charlotte Caffey on the guitar and piano and Kathy Valentine on the bass, but it’s the drummer, Gina Schock, who definitely keeps the beat.

Belinda Carlisle upfront on vocals has such a full-bodied voice it’s like a fine wine. She may have turned in her funky clothes for a loose blue-sequined top but she looked absolutely beautiful. Carlisle accentuated her carefree girlie attitude by kicking off her shoes after the opener and performing barefoot for the rest of the show. She danced around the stage as if she was a child running through the park.

Those days may be in our past, but hearing those old songs brings us back. “Being an all-girl band, our songs are mostly about boys,” shared Wiedlin. She recalled those formative years, saying, “We were such drama queens.”

The drama queens have grown up, and when they played “Mother’s Little Helper” by the Rolling Stones, I had to wonder where their life had taken them over the last 30 years. Such a classic song that all ‘moms’ in the audience can relate to.

The audience was not all women. To my surprise, the audience was very mixed and many of the men were holding their hearts or dancing in their seats.

The show itself showcases only one song from Carlisle’s solo career, “Mad About You”, as well as one from Wiedlin’s, “Cool Places”. It was “Cool Places” that had the fans up for the rest of the night. From there it was a dance party with the highlights being “Our Lips are Sealed” and “We Got the Beat”.

The GoGo’s are getting a star on Hollywood Boulevard next week. Carlisle shared “We started in 1978 in the basement of a porno theater right on Hollywood Boulevard. After 33 years, we’re still at it.”

Ironically the star is right outside that same theater.

and just so ya know:

Belinda Carlisle will be turning 53 Next Week, Charlotte Caffey is the mother of the band and she will be 58 in October, Jane Wiedlin is 53, Kathy Valentine is the baby in the group and she's 52 and Gina Schock is 54

God Bless The Go-Go's
