Cool The Monkees being Re-released on DVD!

tvshowsondvd.com is reporting that a company called Eagle Rock Entertainment will be re-releasing both seasons of The Monkees on DVD. These releases will take the place of the previous DVD's released by Rhino as they are now out of print. You can see the story and a picture of the packaging here: http://tvshowsondvd.com/n/15793

I'm not rebuying this (no need to really)but I don't really like the DVD set packaging. In theory they are amazing but they break easily and are awkward on my DVD shelf.

They are pricey but the Rhino sets, if you can find one, are far more expensive since they're out of print. Plus there is a lot of music in The Monkees so I'm sure music rights contribute to the expensive price.

That's what I was thinking. But if all the original music is there, and the episodes are completely un-edited, I think its worth it. Also, Amazon has 20 dollars off the list price!

I've actually never seen The Monkees tv series, but love much of the music, so it should be fun to really get to know this group and series!

The Rhino sets that I had was stolen so I never bothered to buy them again since it is so expensive but I am glad they are re-releasing the sets again and I already pre-ordered them and I just ordered the Movie Head on Blu-Ray!

The episodes are not without their problems. Some of them look beautiful whereas others do need a good cleanup. Audio drops, lots of dust and debris throughout some episodes (note the Fairy Tale episode).

These are going to be just a dump of the material that Rhino previously released. Too bad they didn't take the opportunity to up the ante a little and put some more stuff on here and clean these up.

There is one episode (Too Many Girls) that is slightly edited. It doesn't take away from the story (did I really say that)? but it has to do with the scene where Davy is in the tea room and first meets Fern. Her bikini was a little too revealing. This is interesting to me as later in that season in the Monkees at the Movies episode there are girls in bikinis in that episode and they didn't make any alterations. I don't know if there was something too suggestive about that scene or if the standards and practices kinda loosened up in that short period of time.

I wonder if the menus will be identical to the Rhino set as the coverart looks similar to the menus.

While this release is GREAT for those who don't own it and didn't want to spend the big $$s after they went out of print, it's not worth the double dip for those of us who bought them already. The price tag is steep but not as steep as what some sellers were trying to dump them for. The cover art just looks cheap to me but I'm not the target audience for this release. Glad it will be made available for those who want to add it to their collection.

I'd like to get this eventually since I don't have the Rhino set. Maybe it will come down in price later on.

TVshowsondvd.com has updated their story about these releases. The content will be the same as the Rhino releases. The only difference will be the packaging. You can read the full text of their press release here: http://tvshowsondvd.com/n/15844

I would like to buy these but the price is too high. I'm willing to pay about 30 bucks tops per season and that's it. The show is silly fun but I don't think it's worth 60 or 70 bucks per season. I'll be shopping for a nice deal on these once they're released.

It looks like they lowered the retail price to $40 per season. You can get them at amazon.com for $36.

Thanks for the info, that price is more reasonable I may go for that. They are smart to lower the price because I don't think they'll have many sales at 60 or 70 bucks per season.
