I was speaking with a friend and he was telling me that CGI has come so far that they could take a past image of Elvis, or even Bruce Lee and make an entire movie from that image. They can even do things like put clothing on them that is in style, and have them sing popular songs for today.
So don't be surprised if one day you see a trailer of a new movie that starrs Elvis Presley or Bruce Lee. Maybe even James Dean. |

it might be technically possible, but it still doesn't look "right"
- of course they did it back in 1982's "Trail of the Pink Panther", this movie was released two years after Peter Seller's death - his role is made up of outtakes and unused footage of him from "The Pink Panther Strikes Again". |

Something similar goes on today for living stars. I know of two instances from the top.
They did it for Arnold Schwarzenegger in Terminator Salvation and Patrick Stewart in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. They were both CGI in the movies, never appearing on the set to film. Also, though not in the movies, this was done for the Chris Farley / David Spade DirecTV commerical from last year having Farley "appear" with Spade. |

They did it with "Forrest Gump" and in various TV commercials. Of course, they CAN do it--but that doesn't necessarily mean they SHOULD. (I seriously
doubt that Groucho Marx, Jimmy Cagney or Humphrey Bogart would be selling a soft drink if they were alive today.)

A more recent example is when they had Peter Cushing as Tarkin in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. His estate allowed the filmmakers to do it.
It just didn't look right, I mean it looked great if it were used for a video game but it looked unnatural when he interacted w/ live actors. |

I've heard about this technology when it was used to make a image of Michael Jackson appear at The Grammy Awards and it's one of the newest innoventions used in movies and also used in music videos and concerts. Take for example when Frank Sinatra died in 1998 Celine Dion performed a version of the song All The Way with Frank Sinatra's voice with video footage and as movies especially animated movies have become advanced to make today this technology has indeed become more popular than ever. And as people grow to enjoy movies we will see more movies use new and amazing technologies that people will be amazed to see in movies. And many fans of actors such as John Wayne Lauren Bacall Rock Hudson and James Dean will be surprised to see images of them in future movies and that idea is awesome

When producers insist on using CGI's of long-dead movie stars then that tells me that they don't have enough confidence in the real ones they've hired. I think the idea is beyond stupid, If I want to see deceased stars I'll watch Turner Classic Movies.

There is the Hologram, but Forrest Gump did that putting Gump by JFK, LBJ, Nixon, and Lennon... I won't be surprised that they'll have a Hologram film and Robin Williams will be in it!

There's some controversy going on with putting a CGI James Dean in Finding Jack.
