Me-TV to Honor Lucille Ball's 100th Birthday with Marathon

Lucille Ball (August 6, 1911-April 26, 1989), the queen of comedy, would have
been 100 years old on August 6, 2011. In honor of what would have been her
birthday, the Me-TV
network will be doing a 50 hour marathon of alternating blocks of I Love
Lucy, The Lucy Show, and We Love Lucy beginning midnight on August 6 until
7:00am on August 8. 100 episodes will be aired in total, one episode for each
year of her life. This is a must-see for any Lucy fan - get ready to laugh along
with Lucy and company all weekend long!

You don't have The Lucy Show seasons 5 & 6. Maybe they'll show some of these episodes, complete and uncut. I have all of "Lucy" that's been released, also.

On the prints for We Love Lucy, it states that it's been "edited," which is probably simply to explain what LittleRickyII has just stated.

This morning they aired the Fernando Lamas episode. I think that was one of the few I hadn't seen before (or had just seen part of it). Really enjoyed it.

It's pretty heavily edited because there are twice as many opening and closing credits, as well as a recap of the part-one episode at the beginning of the part-two episode. Personally, though, I think these edits are favorable to the show because, frankly, the hour-long format was too long and often had a lot of slow spots. I think the folks who put this We Love Lucy version together did a good job of identifying and removing the slow spots that didn't advance the plot and weren't particularly funny, so the story moves along better and is more entertaining. Even the weak episodes that are difficult to watch are entertaining in this version. Purists might not appreciate the edits, but it works for me.

The main intention of this format was to extend the I Love Lucy rerun package, increasing it from 179 episodes to 205. A station I used to watch in San Diego that carried I Love Lucy had the full I Love Lucy/We Love Lucy package. So the day after "The Ricardos Dedicate a Statue" would air, then the 26 episodes of We Love Lucy would commence. And after that, they would cycle back to the first episode of I Love Lucy. For some reason, though, they didn't run We Love Lucy in order. For example, on Monday they might air part one of "Lucy Takes a Cruise to Havana"; part two on Tuesday; then on Wednesday jump to part one of "Lucy Makes Room for Danny." They would ultimately air all 26 episodes, just not in proper order, even though the I Love Lucy episodes were in order. That kind of annoyed me, although these episodes are pretty much self-contained storylines with no story arcs like in I Love Lucy (e.g., the pregnancy episodes, the Hollywood episodes, the Europe episodes), so it didn't matter so much that they were not in sequence. But I still like things to be in order.

Thanks for the analysis and discussion of We Love Lucy. I had never seen the Lucy-Desi shows in that format -- every station in my area that's aired I Love Lucy has not included Lucy-Desi in the package, even when using a heavy amount of airings. So that format is new to me.

For me at least, Lucy-Desi did take some getting used to in its original form when I first saw it (in the '90s on cable) -- I'm reminded of how different Gunsmoke was in its original half-hour TV scripts compared with the slower pace of the later hour-longs. Regardless, CBS really had some good stuff going in both cases!

A couple of years ago a local Christian TV station use to show reruns of ILL, followed by the We Love Lucy shows, followed by the first 30 b&w episodes TLS. I saw on a website that CBS/Viacom has (or had at the time) a syndication package available with pretty much all of Lucy's b&w episodes available in one package. Once the "Buys A Boat" episode aired, then it was back to the first episode of ILL.

I think this is the website you're referring to. This first link is CBS's summary of their first two options to broadcasters: 1) I Love Lucy alone, and 2) I Love Lucy plus We Love Lucy:
