I counted at least 16 Seinfeld plots that wouldn't be feasible in 2011. Loosing your car in the parking garage, switching a cassette in an answering machine, Jerry getting "blacklisting" for writing bad cheques at a bodega.
Here is the full list if you'd like to check it out: http://theresetbuttonforever.blogspo...feld-dead.html |

Technology like texting and other similar things could easily be the focus of a "newer" Seinfeld with, let's say, Kramer becoming obsessed with DVR or George becoming confused about the proper texting etiquette and so on. |

Interesting thoughts.
I think most of them would still work. Such as the parking garage - I don't have a smart phone that can unlock my doors, do most people? Also regarding the use of cell phones, they could have easily been forgotten or gone dead to keep many of the plot lines still workable. |

Well every sit com relies upon whatever is happening at the time. So curb your enthusiasm plots may be moot in ten years time but at the moment they are contemporary. And to be honest most of what is used in Curb would have been used in Seinfeld if it was made presently. I like your attempt, but I don't really understand the point as you could sit there saying that Abbott and Costello sketches wouldn't work because they could check "who" is on first by just searching on their iphone...

The one that stuck out was the "Baby Shower" with the Russian cable installers. You could opt for either digital antennas or find a way to watch the game (or anything else) online these days.

It's funny because I wrote a few (okay several) Seinfeld fan fics and I was trying to stay true to the series. A couple of times I would catch myself writing that Jerry's cell phone rang and would have to change it to cordless phone!
But I don't think people notice all of those technology issues when they watch Seinfeld (I don't!) b/c it's still a classic show! I mean there are still Soup Nazi's, Big Salads, Chinese Restaurants, Parking Garages, etc.... Not that there's anything wrong with that! |
