Sad Songs
Some songs are real "tear-jerkers." I'm not usually a very emotional person, but, if I'm alone and hear one of these songs, I haven't gotten through it with dry eyes yet:
"Daddy, Don't You Walk So Fast" - Wayne Newton "Old Shep" - Elvis Presley "Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning?" - Alan Jackson These are some of the songs that really tug at my heartstrings. Who else has heard a song that literally makes you cry? |

"Tears in Heaven" - definitely. "Cinderella" by Steven Curtis Chapman is another - written about his daughter who died shortly thereafter in an accident.

Many Christmas songs are quite sad. "White Christmas" is very sad, especially the line about "just like the ones I used to know..."
And "Merry Christmas, Darling" by the Carpenters...ahh...heavy sigh. And while I don't think it's intended to be sad, I have always found "The Christmas Song" ("Chestnuts Roasting...") to be a real tearjerker. |

Another song which is so sad in its irony is John Lennon's "(Just Like) Starting Over". Here he was, after a five-year hiatus from show biz, poised for a MAJOR comeback - when that hateful creep who shall remain nameless gunned him down. The song itself is so optimistic, which just makes it (in light of everything that was to come) even sadder.
