No, not the kind that go on your roof, I'm talking about the virus shingles. Have you ever had it? This is my SECOND time. The last time was in high school.
For those that don't know, shingles is chicken pox in adults. D |

I've never had them, but my brother-in-law, who is only 30, struggled with a bout of shingles in his early 20s. During his paramedic training, he had to help lift a 400 lb. man into the ambulance and he ended up with a hernia, as did one of the other paramedics. Oy. Feel better soon!!!!

My heart goes out to anyone who has, or has had them. I've known several people who have had them, and to say the least they are no fun. The pain, I am told, is excruciating.

My uncle had that while he was in his 70s. I hope that anyone who suffers from shingles recovers very quickly.
I think it's called the Zoster virus. Anyone who had chicken pox as a child may get shingles later in life, unless I'm mistaken. |

I had varicella (chicken pox) as an adult (37) and it wasn't fun. At first I had no clue what it was. At first I thought I had a bad case of hives. But the onset was so fast, I called my doctor's office in the middle of the night. He saw me first thing the next morning, took a 3 second look and new exactly what it was. Thank God it wasn't itchy right away - he prescribed Zorivax (I think), some strong anti-itched medication and oatmeal bathes. And basically I had to lay low for a week.
I know shingles comes from the same virus, but its worse (as in much more unpleasant) than chicken pox, if I'm not mistaken. Hope I don't get it, but since the virus is in my body this is a possibility. |

I can handle the rash being itchy, it's the sharp pains that's killing me. The doctor prescribed a nerve blocker for pain and some other med to help the virus go away. I LOVE the nerve blocker!

I never had it D, but I've had lots of skin problems, hives for eight years. I kid you not. Woke up in the summer of 2000 covered in hives. Took Zyrtec until 2008 when it finally subsided. I hope the shingles leaves soon. It sounds maddening.

I'm sorry to hear the discomfort you've experienced D. I've heard the rashes can be blisterly and painful. It sounds like the nerve blocker is working though. Glad you're finally getting some relief - hope you feel LOTS better real soon and that the virus goes underground - hopefully permanently - because the shingles are no picnic (to say the least). |
