Default Richard Bockledge

Does anyone think this guy will ever be caught? It's been a long time since anyone has heard from him. I think he's probably dead somewhere.

For those who might not know who I'm talking about, Richard was a 24-year-old pharmacy student who is accused of murdering his Yugoslavian ex-girlfriend who was a doctor, Tanya Kopric, after she refused to help him because he was flunking out of school.

I think he's still alive under an assumed name. The only way I see catching him is if he gets taken away for something stupid and a fingerprint comes up as him

While there is a distinct possibility that Bockledge may be deceased, I think there is an equally strong possibility that he finished his degree under an assumed name and is still practicing medicine to this day.

Bockledge much like another UM fugitive Randall Utterback strikes me as someone who would be able to assimilate back into society without much trouble. These are the type of people that unless they are put in situations where their wrath is provoked aren't going to draw much attention to themselves and are probably able to conduct their life in a fashion which would not make them appear conspicuous.

On the flipside given where Bockledge abandoned his car and the fact that there hasn't been any reported sightings of him (that I'm aware of anyhow) since that time, it's possible that he traipsed off into the Canadian wilderness and took his own life, his remains likely never to be located or identified.

Actually, this is the main reason I've always been surprised that Bocklage and Randall Utterback have never been caught. They're not career criminals, but they have both a history of violent, erratic behaviour and exhibit a complete lack of self-control when things don't go their way. Even if they could successfully stay hidden for awhile, I figured they would eventually run into a situation when their temper got the better of them and they'd get themselves into trouble and be discovered. Given how Bocklage never seemed to take responsibility for anything and always blamed his problems on everybody else but himself, I can't see him being able to quietly get a degree under an assumed name without incident.

I've always felt the same way about Dub Wackerhagen, which is why I'm inclined to believe he's dead. If his violent temper got so out of control that he wound up murdering his girlfriend, it's amazing that he could stay hidden for 17 years without getting into trouble again.

My thoughts exactly. Richard does not in any way seem like the type of fugitive that would be able to be on the run and still alive for this long. His appearance sticks out; unlike many other fugitives who can blend in with society if they were on the run in another country (like Hispanic criminals in Mexico, for example). After all, he was spotted in a fairly small town in Canada so it's likely his face could easily be recognizable and remembered; nowhere would be safe for him. He might or might not have premeditated suicide, but if he did it is most likely he did it after wandering off into the vastness of the Canadian wilderness.

I always felt that he was in pharmacy school so he could score prescription drugs. I doubt if he committed suicide because it didn't appear that he felt his actions weren't justified. He wouldn't take responsibility for anything, and I think suicide implies some blame on his part. JMO.
