TV Highlights from the "Fringe" Comic-Con 2011 Panel

Comic-Con Q&A: "Fringe" Panel Highlights
by Maureen Ryan
posted Jul 24th 2011

So what did the stars and producers of "Fringe" reveal about the show's fourth season at the show's Comic-Con panel on Saturday? Absolutely nothing.

Yet the panel was still enjoyable, even if I have no idea how Peter Bishop will be re-integrated into the world of "Fringe" when the show returns.

The stars were, of course, willing to talk about "Fringe's" excellent third season and the panel began with a funny video clip -- "auditions" for the role of Peter who, of course, is played by Joshua Jackson.

The actor wasn't scheduled to be part of the panel, but he turned up in an Observer suit and hat as the session was getting underway.

So how will his character return when Season 4 begins? "All will be answered, we promise," executive producer J.H. Wyman said.

Just not right now.

A couple of interesting nuggets that came from the session: a fan asked if Olivia would learn to control her powers this season, and executive producer Jeff Pinkner said he's "not sure we've seen all her powers yet."

As for the show's other FBI agent, "Astrid's got a gun" at one point in Season 4, Jasika Nicole said (or rather, sang).

The funniest moment came when, at the request of TV Guide moderator Damian Holbrook, Lance Reddick imitated Anna Torv imitating Leonard Nimoy.

That was quite entertaining.

Otherwise, the session consisted of the cast and producers bantering with each other about their characters and the world of "Fringe". A fan asked John Noble about the differences between playing Walter and Walternate, and the actor admitted he had always had a "soft spot" for Walternate.

"You shot my wife in the head!" Joshua Jackson said. Noble pointed out that that happened in one possible future. "People can change!" he replied.

In the final third of the session, the lights were turned up and the tables were turned on the audience. The actors asked trivia questions about the show, and the audience members who got the answers right got a "Free Peter" T-shirt.

Jasika Nicole's question: What was in a particular brain-enhancing sandwich that Astrid ate in one episode?

Torv's question: What color suit was Walter wearing when he got married?

And what other instrument did Christopher Lloyd's character play, aside from keyboards?

The answer to that last question could only be glimpsed on the Violet Sedan Chair record -- and of course, it turned out that a fan in the audience had a replica of that record with her.

Even "Fringe" fans in the alternate-universe Comic-Con would have a hard time outdoing that kind of devotion.
