Does anyone know about this case? Jim Wood was a former Green Beret who vanished in 1987. His story aired on June 11, 1999, and his family was hoping someone knew where he was. Apparently in 1987 he just walked out of his life and went to some unknown place and hasn't contacted anyone since. I only found one article online from 1998 that talked more about his army days and said very little about his actual disappearance.
Here's the link: http://articles.baltimoresun.com/199...od-vietnam-war I couldn't find anything else about the case online, and I don't think the case has ever been discussed here and I'm curious if the case was ever solved. |

Is this the one where he comes back from Vietnam and stays home for a while but then is so traumatized that he just walks out on his life? The article seems to confirm I am thinking of the right case. I remember this one being on lifetime a lot in UM's later years. I'm afraid I haven't heard of any updates.

I don't remember if I ever saw this episode or not but I have read about it. Not sure if Jim's dad was ill and near death when Jim disappeared or when the story aired 12 years later but one of Jim's friends said he wanted to find Jim before Jim's 85-year-old father died. Jim would be 70 this year if he is alive. It's sad how he felt ashamed and confused for leaving the Army and then walked out on his family and presumably to start a new life. I only hope he is alive and safe and one day will come back to his family who loves him.

What an obscure case. This was the only thread I could find on it.
Looks as if there was never any updates on what happened to Jim: http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/w/wood_james.html I don't think they mentioned the postcard in the segment, even though it was received the year before it aired. |
