Default John H. Breck, Inc....

...was the series' primary sponsor on ABC. And, as such, Patty (and "Cathy") usually appeared in an "integrated" commercial for Breck shampoo and their other hair care products at the end of the episodes sponsored by them. The other sponsors were often "participating advertisers", buying one minute commercial spots here and there (no "integrated" ads were done for those advertisers).

Today, Breck shampoo is marketed by Greenbrier International, the parent company of "Dollar Tree", where you can find them exclusively in their stores.

TV ...hair preparations provided by BRECK...

In its first two years, Breck and General Mills (Cheerios) were alternate sponsors, but Breck always had the integrated spot at the end of each of their shows. To this day I can recall the taglines for their major products: "Breck Shampoo...for dry, normal or oily hair" and "Breck Hair Set Mist...so fine your hair won't know it, but your hairdo will."

In the third season, if I recall correctly, most if not all the other sponsors referred to in TV Knowledge Fan's earlier post were participating sponsors, but Nabisco and Bayer Aspirin often made the tagline in opens and closes.

And lest we forget, the most unusual product placement promo ever seen in a sitcom credit always appeared at the very end of each episode:

"hair preparations provided by BRECK"

The irony of BRECK sponsoring the show when Patty & Cathy wore synthetic wigs

I remember seeing a commercial on YouTube where Patty Lane was using Breck hairspray on that flip wig.

Did Patty and Cathy wear wigs in all of the episodes? I thought some of it was their actual hair. I wonder why they had her wear wigs at all as Patty Duke has beautiful hair as I've seen in many of the other shows she was in.

On TPDS, specifically when was she wearing a wig?

Patty Duke had beautiful thick healthy hair. I guess the endless changing of the hair for both characters would damage her natural hair plus the "flip" & "turned under" wigs were quicker for shooting scenes.

Bliss..I thought about that a few days ago..I agree with you, it would make sense for her to wear wigs. All that hair manipulation wouldn't have been good on her hair and she was playing both roles-Cathy and Patty.

Very true. Especially in seasons 1 & 2 when she played both identical cousins about equally. I'm assuming Pat started wearing the Patty/Cathy wigs since day one of the show & of course Rita/Diane would have the same styled wigs too for the "back of the head" scenes

I read about Rita, who was Miss Duke double but who is Diane, because I've never heard of her. I was watching this on Antenna Tv today and I saw this scene where Patty was next to her bed and her stand-in was on the bed and had her head down but we could can tell that she wasn't Patty. This was on the beginning of the 3rd and final season episodes.

Peyton,
"Diane" was a name that Patty brought up in an interview. I don't know why she mentions this mysterious name when she was talking about her body double on the show. Hell likely Patty forgotten the poor girl's real name.

I recall the episode you mention. Was that the Shindog episode?!?!?! I swear Rita/Diane/whoever looked up briefly and lipped Cathy's vocals. The director did the same thing again in another season 3 episode. It's like he got careless or the producers didn't bother since the Cathy character had limited appearances anyways.

Bliss..The episode that I mentioned previously was "Operation: Tonsils", where Patty went to have her tonsils removed by the doctor that she has a crush on, who was played by guest star Troy Donahue. I agree with you..the director probably got careless and kept rolling the cameras

Michael Keith...I'm not sure which episodes that Patty/Cathy were wearing a wig but if you look closely, you can tell
