I'm kind of desperate and I was wondering if someone can help me with my computer. When I go on youtube to watch youtube videos, I can see them but there is no sound. Also, my "download the video" feature on realplayer doesnt work. When I download a video and try to watch it, it doesnt work.
Also, my computer sometimes freezes as well. Can someone help me? I have driven myself literally crazy the past two weeks trying to fix my computer. I have talked to people from comcast, my internet provider, via telephone and live chat mulitple times. I have talked to people via live chat on realplayer as well. I was able to listen to youtube videos the other day and all of a sudden there is no sound. I have tried EVERYTHING. In the past two weeks I have uninstalled and reinstalled: Google Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer 8 and 9, Adobe flash player, norton anti virus etc. I've done these things mulitple times!!!! Also, I've changed the font, the way my computer looks, I've freed up disk space, ran quick and full scans and checked sound cards mulitple times. I am getting more and more frustrated with this thing. Also, I had to delete my browsing history which makes me mad because I lost all my websites and pages that I looked at. Can anyone help me at all or refer me to somebody?? |

Well I still have no sound at all on youtube. I can see the videos but I cant hear them. I dont know why this is happening. Also, my computer still freezes sometimes and my fonts are different. I mean even the font thats used to post or respond to threads is different and I dont know how that happened.

i might have some time to help you tonight, if you need help sooner than that you should register on the Computer Hope Forums and post a thread asking for help there, although you should probably give some more helpful information to start with
- what version of Windows are you using? - have you run your antivirus or any other anti-spyware programs? - did all these problems happen all-at-once, or over time? - have you tried doing a system restore? - do you get sound in any other programs? - can you play a CD or a .wav sound file? - did this all start happening right after you did an update, or after installing a new program, like RealPlayer? |

i think you should try to reinstall the sound driver only for your audio device - follow the instructions here: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/17...ce-driver.html
you should make a note of what the device is BEFORE you uninstall it, or make sure you are familiar with where to find the drivers for your computer if Vista does not find it automatically (most likely it will) - dont uninstall the device, just the driver only. reboot and let windows find the device and reload the driver, then check the sound. |

I tried it but nothing happened. At least, I think I followed the directions. BTW, when I look up the device manager, theres a yellow card for Realtek High Defintion Audio, also my portable devices as well as well as Microsoft Adapter #2. The thing is when I look to update these devices, they say that the device thats already installed is the right one.

instead of trying to update these drivers, right click on each one, and click on uninstall then close everthing and reboot you may want to go to your computer's manufacturer's website and download the drivers for each of these items - the update option is usually just checking the windows update site which is not reliable for drivers. |

By the way, thank you for all the help. Even if I uninstall everything, where would I find the software to reinstall it? Would it be through the manufacturer? Would they have that avialable?

you should ONLY uninstall the sound card driver
Windows should already have the driver in its installation files, however if it does not you should be able to download it from your computer manufacturer's website - if you give me the make/model/part number i can find it for you some computers used to come with a set of installation/recovery/software disks, most of them now have that on a separate partition on the hard drive, do not uninstall everything unless you already know that you either have those disks, can get them, or have the recovery partition. most pc makers will charge you big $$$ to replace those disks if it is out of warranty. |
