TV The Great Show, Wrong Network Game

Quote:
Do you ever think about your favorite shows, cancelled or still on the air, and think to youself that they would or would've done better had they been promoted to a greater extent, been on another network, or been paired with a different series in a line up? It's something I think about all the time. Recent cancellations like Better off Ted or a show like Community would or would've done better on a cable network, no? Well here are a few shows that I think, given the right network and the line ups they could've been apart of, would've made them hits!
Part Un
Part Deux

I'm interested in everybody else's opinions, especially about shows I might have missed, because there must be a ton I did!

How about Lone Star? It wasn't a fit for broadcast networks and especially not FOX, but it could have worked on a channel like AMC

I used to really like the show New Amsterdam on FOX when it aired in the 2007-08 season. The plot was a bit complicated, though, which was probably why it only lasted 8 episodes. On a network like AMC, I think it would have been a huge hit.

Then, there was the sitcom Welcome to the Captain which aired on CBS that same season and lasted for, I think, 6 episodes. It had Joanna Garcia, Jeffrey Tambor and was actually pretty funny I remember. This show would have been a perfect fit for TBS at the time.

I didn't think of that show, because I was in the majority who didn't tune in, but I know it was considered the best show to debut this past season. I agree, it's a show that would've worked on AMC. It also might've worked next year behind Dallas on TNT, no?

i think that The Good Guys would've done better on cable, probably USA or TNT would've been a better home for them

same thing with Eastwick, it would've been a good fit for SciFi, Lifetime or Lifetime Real Women

I watched the whole Studio 60 series on DVD recently and my feeling is that it started REALLY strong... the first 10 episodes or so were brilliant but then I think it really started to lose its way. I'm not sure if that was because the ratings were in trouble or what, but by the end I didn't think it was nearly as sharp a show

PS - I am really enjoying your blog, ryan 423!

Definitely Swingtown. I don't think broadcast was a mistake for this show. I think airing on broadcasting allowed them to be more creative with the writing and storylines, rather than showing everyone naked every 5 minutes like they would've done on Showtime. I think airing on CBS was a mistake. They bought it at a time when they were trying to change their image, and not be completely labeled as the crime/old-people network. While they've come to accept that label in recent years, they ended up pushing Swingtown to summer, and eventually Fridays, and it was never given the fairest of chances.

A network like ABC would have been a much better fit for the show, especially at a time when Desperate Housewives and Grey's Anatomy were still big hits. It could have fit in perfect in a timeslot like Sundays at 10. It was a great show, but definitely had a ceiling because of the network it aired on.

I remember one summer where ABC aired a Mike Judge animated show, The Goode Family. It was funny, I tough, but animated comedies have no place being on ABC. Would have done better on FOX or Comedy Central, especally now with the fact that the station has Futurama.

BREAKING IN, FOX: Even tough the show is still in limbo til November, it's simply not a FOX Comedy. It's fresh and original and geekey and nothing else like FOX has ever had. Maybe it would have been better for NBC's comedy line up, or on CBS after the big bang theory, but not on FOX after an incapable show as it's lead in like American Idol.

'Back to You' seemed like it should've been a '90s NBC show.
