Lamont always asked his dad to make him breakfast or get him something to eat like it was his girlfriend or wife. He also scolded his Dad like a child at times.

Yes, I found it a bit odd. I guess the premise being that Lamont did all the outdoor work -- bringing stuff home to sell and the heavy lifting, while Fred took care of the indoor work, such as housework (!), cooking, and "coordinating"

There was a lot of co-dependency between those two.

Esther Rolle said in the interview I linked in November 1975, she couldn't relate to Sanford & Son because she couldn't understand a 33 year old man hanging on to his Dad's apron strings. lol http://news.google.com/newspapers?id...+hemsley&hl=en |

Fred never wanted to let go of Lamont and wanted him to stay forever and would play the guilt trip card if he thought Lamont would leave. Fred was able to cook and take care of the house since he was retired.

I agree Lamont was a grown man. BUT! Fred was his FATHER! I am 49 with grown kids: daughter 33, son 31 and my youngest son 22. I cook dinner when my two oldest come to visit. My wife rarely cooks (lol) so me and my 22 year old take turns. But Lamont IS grown but as I said before Fred is still his Pops. If I'm alive and my kids live to be 100 they will STILL be my little girl and my two little boys. Peace

I don't see it as odd, they had a PARTNERSHIP in the business.... Fred did the indoor work, Lamont did the outdoor. Also apparently Fred was not totally able to live on his own, so Lamont sorta took care of him... So if Lamont was out in the hot sun, doing heavy lifting, etc.... and providing for Fred, I think it was reasonable for him to expect Fred to have a meal waiting for him, and keep the house decent.
Plus Fred freaked out if Lamont even HINTED that he was moving out, so Fred was just as dependent on Lamont as ppl make Lamont out to be on Fred |

I think some of you are making a big deal out of nothing.
It's just a show. Were you and others around at the time S&S was in production? Are there any other shows back then or even now that are strange in their own way? |

Fred could have hired someone else especially if he and Elizabeth ended up not having any kids. |
