If I had to cast the character of Dr. Lars Lindstrom on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, I guess I would cast the late Victor Buono.

Ted described in the episode where Lars is fooling around with Sue Ann as a tall blond haired fellow. So DHP fits but if were talking an actor back then I really don't know.

Just a note: David Hyde Pierce is even younger than I thought, born in 1959. I realize this is all hypothetical, but to actually have played Lars he would have been pretty young indeed, as MaryFan1 alluded to...!

I'm sure I've seen on the spinoff Phyllis,pictures in Audrey and Jonathan's

living room,a three picture frame one of Bess and one of a blond man I take

to be Lars.

I always get an image of a John Dever,looking Lars with a fussy personality

of a Tony Randall character.
