Title Set for the New Underworld Movie

Sony's Screen Gems has given an official title to the fourth Underworld installment - Underworld: Awakening.

Directed by Mans Marlind and Bjorn Stein, the January 20, 2012 release stars Kate Beckinsale, India Eisley and Michael Ealy.



Beckinsale returns as the vampire warrioress Selene, who escapes imprisonment to find herself in a world where humans have discovered the existence of both Vampire and Lycan clans, and are conducting an all-out war to eradicate both immortal species.

Bloody Disgusting has already hit the floor of the San Diego Comic-Con and has landed an early look at the art for Sony Screen Gems' forthcoming Underworld: Awakening, the fourth film in the franchise arriving in theaters January 20, 2012.

Kate Beckinsale Bares More Than Her Teeth in Fourth Underworld

In Awakening, Selene comes out of a 12-year-induced coma to find a world in which humans have discovered the truth about vampires and Lycans and are waging an all-out war against them.

To make things even more interesting, she finds out that she has a pre-teen daughter somewhere in the world. Naturally, she goes after her daughter, killing a lot of evil humans and Lycans along the way.





Screen Gems has just released a trailer for Awakening, which starts with Beckinsale au naturel before escaping her captivity and donning her skin-tight black leather catsuit.

Underworld: Awakening will arrive Jan. 20, 2012, in 3D.

IMAX Giving Sony's Underworld 4 Day-and-Date Release

IMAX is super-sizing Underworld Awakening, the fourth installment in Sony Pictures Entertainment’s supernatural-action franchise from Lakeshore Entertainment, to screen from January 20, 2012.

Underworld Awakening stars Kate Beckinsale as Selene, and marks the first title in the franchise to be released in IMAX's 3D format.




"Underworld is one of Screen Gems' most important franchises, so it's important to us to present the movie as its fans want to see it: on the IMAX screen," Rory Bruer, president of Worldwide Distribution for Sony Pictures Releasing, said Thursday.
