My Grandma will be going into assisted living soon
After suffering a stroke, my grandma will be going into assisted living.
It seems that all the money that she put into her sale of her house and all that will be gone...I dunno how they work, but some places are $3000 a month. |

What they are is a more free version, I guess you could say, of a nursing home. They don't watch the people as closely there. Workers there just make sure that the people are taken care of, that they eat, don't get lost, go to the bathroom and all of that stuff. Its more like a daycare for elders. My grandma went there because she had had alzheimers and we couldn't trust her living by herself any more. For someone who had a stroke though, they'll probably suggest you move her to a nursing home, all depending on how bad the stroke was. |

I think what happens is that "the State takes over" once all your resources are exhausted, and I also think at that point your life is a more "no frills" thing with no phone in the room, probably no TV, etc.
Your meals and general welfare are provided for though. When you think about it, as our society changes and we all move away from our families and age, the vast majority of us will end our lives in a nursing home, unless we are fortunate enough to have family that will take care of us or incredible wealth. Lots of things are good about our current culture, but that is one that is, to my mind, very, very sad and sobering. Best of luck to your family, Mr. Cleveland. |
