Does anyone know if John Hawkins has been apprehended yet? I just watched this one and did a little look up but found nothing except how Antonio Sabato Jr portrayed him in a movie. Anyone know anything?
Thanks!

Yes, he was captured in the early nineties in Italy. He was profiled on America's Most Wanted and John Walsh made a point to heavily publicize the case including doing a piece about Hawkins on an episode of Oprah. Hawkins was convicted of conspiracy to commit murder and was sentenced to 25 years in prison. His sentence was minor compared to Boggs and Hanson (both got life) likely because Hawkins didn't actually commit the murder himself - Boggs and Hanson did. Although police believe the scheme was Hawkins' idea. Boggs died in prison a few years ago, IIRC.
I remember the movie aired on Fox in 1995 or 1996. It was a made-for-TV movie and definitely had that corny "movie of the week" feel. Unfortunately, I don't remember much else about it. Interesting case though. They almost got away with it. |

Just saw this case on unsolved mysteries today for the first time. Very interesting case. Almost the perfect crime.

Recently discovered this was covered in Forensic Files (Medical Detectives) S6 Ep7 - "Mistaken For Dead".
Much more detail in this than the UM segment including actual crime scene photo(s) and a nod to the segment screened on America's Most Wanted. Someone mentioned in another thread the confusion raised about a blood alcohol level, the reason would appear to be due to the toxicology report (also shown in MD) which showed both values 0.29 and 0.40 (although I didn't look closely enough to see why both values had been listed), yet it definitely said 0.29 and also had it circled on the report. |

I know it was on Murder By The Book, which was an hour-long show, and I do have that episode. That ep also had a lot of additional info and a crime scene photo. |

This case was profiled on Snapped Killer Couples today. It was a different take from the UM episode, which focused more on Boggs. This one focused on Gene Hanson first, then John Hawkins, who was also interviewed.
Gene and John were business partners but also a couple (denied by John). Gene was gay and John was basically a gigolo and an opportunist. Gene was in love with John, but it sounded like John was doing whatever was convenient. Boggs also cruised the gay bars. They did show the actual police photo of the victim Ellis Greene. He looked nothing like the blonde actor - he had dark hair and a beard. Gene Hanson had plastic surgery and looked quite different than before. Boggs was also known for supplying drugs to people, recreational and prescription. John Hawkins said in the interview he had no clue about the murder plot. John served 20 years and is now free. Did anyone else watch it? |
