Hey JennyLee!
Fancy meetin' you here! LOL.What do you mean by selling her residuals? Does that mean royalties or stock in the show? Do you know why she sold them? |

JennyLee, did you ever hear her talk about the conversation she had with Norman Lear about the departure of Edith? OMG...it was sad. They had discussed having Edith die...Norman couldn't bare to have that happen. Jean said, "She's just a character." Norman said, "Not to me she's not."
She was the glue to that whole family...and I remember crying and crying when she died. The scene with Archie in the bedroom...OMG!...talking to her slipper asking why she had to go...you talk about tears!

I can't believe they had the character of Edith die. When I first read this I was in shock. I really liked the character Edith a lot. She reminds a lot like Lucy. In fact, Edith was/is my favorite character on the show. If "All in the Family" went on without her, I would probably never watch it.

Hi LucyFan,
I know what you mean...Edith was such an integral part of that show. When I was a kid I remember seeing the episode where she died but then I never saw it again when Nick at Nite and TVLand started showing them again so for the longest time I thought maybe I was mistaken about it but then I learned it was in an episode of the spin-off Archie's Place...and I haven't seen those episodes recently. She does remind me of Lucy (which happens to be my all time fave show!!) in the way that some of her comedy was so physical. Edith also possessed a child-like quality much the same as Lucy's which endeared her to so many people. Another actress who has so many of Lucy's comedic qualities is Fran Dresher from The Nanny. Lucy was a big influence on Fran as I have heard and it shows in her timing and ability to do physical comedy. |
