John McEnroe to Host 'The Chair' for ABC Mon, Jan 7, 2002 06:03 PM PDT LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - As a tennis player, John McEnroe was nearly as famous for his vein-popping protests of bad calls as he was for his brilliant play. So chalk it up to irony that ABC has named him the host of "The Chair," a new game show the network bills as the "ultimate test in self-control." McEnroe, who won 17 Grand Slam titles as a player, has for several years provided often brutally honest commentary on tennis for NBC, CBS and cable's USA Network and is a regular on late-night talk shows. "The Chair" will be his first regular gig in primetime. Contestants on "The Chair" will be given a series of tests before each taping to determine their resting heart rate. Once they reach the chair, they'll be strapped to a heart monitor. McEnroe will ask a series of general-knowledge questions, with each right answer bringing the contestant more money. But if the contestant's heart rate goes above a predetermined range based on his or her resting rate, money starts to disappear from the pot. Contestants also can't answer another question until their heart rates fall back within the set range. Players continue until they answer a question incorrectly or their prize money runs out. ABC has ordered 13 episodes of "The Chair," which is scheduled to premiere sometime this year. |

ah...well, thats cool, but to me, it doesnt seem that interesting. They need to bring back some more shows, with like some action in it. In my opinion, thats what made Double Dare and some of the older Nick game shows popular, along with Survivor, people like to see some action. The setup for "The Chair" seems interesting, but I dont think itll last too long
