A few months back, I found myself in a situation that nobody in their right mind would ever want to be put in. Me, my mom, and Carl were coming home from Dotty's, and as we started to pull out of the driveway, I saw this big black man hitting his girlfriend. He was drunk and thought she had his cell phone. At first I was just going to let it go, but as soon as I saw him hitting this girl, I immediately jumped out of the car, and told him to stop. He stopped hitting her for a couple of minutes, but then started hitting her again. My mom was also out there yelling at him to stop, and Carl stayed in the car because he was drunk, and he would have fallen down had he tried to help. Anyway after repeated warnings, this guy still wouldn't stop, so I proceeded to pick him up, and throw him onto the concrete. I expected that there was going to be a fight when he got to his feet, but thankfully he tucked his tail between his legs, and walked away peacefully with his girlfriend. What would you have done in this situation? Would you get involved, or would you not have gotten involved? Would you have called the police, or would you have done something else? Just curious to see how you all would have reacted.

I would have either not done anything or just called 911.
You are lucky that guy stopped when he got up cause he could have gone right after you. And also, you are lucky that they didn't press charges against you for throwing the guy on the ground. |

I would have called the police. You could have done that and told him you were doing that. I think he would have stopped then. A similar situation happened near where I live, about 15 years ago, only with a very tragic ending. It was New Years Eve, and the bars and clubs were closing. A man was walking to his car with his wife, and in front of them, this guy was hitting a woman. The nice man intervened, and the batterer stabbed and killed him. I remember that the nice guy had a lot of kids, like five or six.
![]() The cemataries are filled with people who did the right thing. In driving, I tell my husband that the cemataries are filled with people who had the right of way. Not only that, Brad. It wasn't so long ago that you had a serious heart problem. You may feel like you can take on the world, but your body may disagree. I know you want to do the heroic thing, and that says great things about you. Still, please, don't be so quick to involve yourself in dangerous situations. You may end up paying the ultimate price for it in the end. I hope it doesn't sound like I'm lecturing here. You're my friend, and I care what happens to you.

I would have called 911. It's really best to let trained police officers handle that type of situation.

To Waterston_fan. I apologize for reacting so harshly to your words. Sometimes I overreact to things, and I get offensive like I did in this case, so I sincerely apologize.
