Eek Kids sick of their dad's drug & alcohol use turn him in and give police his pot stash

A 44-year-old father has been arrested after his teenage kids told police he was smoking too much marijuana.

Thomas Morin, of Cottonwood Heights, Utah, was charged with child endangerment and possession of marijuana after his children turned him in.

Police said Morin's 15-year-old son and 13-year-old daughter gave them a 23 gram bag of the drug they said belonged to their father.

The children said they were tired of their father's heavy drug and alcohol use, and complained the home always 'smelled funny', Cottonwood Heights Police Department Sergeant Scott Peck told Deseret News.

Morin, who is reportedly separated from his wife, had a scheduled visit with the children on Monday, police said.

But the teenagers had enough when they arrived to smell marijuana burning in the residence.

Peck said he responded to a call on Monday evening from the 13-year-old, alerting authorities to her father's stash.

When he arrived, the girl went inside her home and retrieved a small bag of drugs, and continued talking with him in front of the residence.

As they were talking, Morin sent her a text message asking her to come back inside.

The officers had her send a reply to ask him to come outside. When he did, he was arrested.

Peck told Fox13Now.com: 'The 13-year-old girl says "Yeah, I'll go get it." So, she goes in the house and grabs a bag of weed - a small bag of weed - about 23 grams, brings it out to us and says 'Here. Here's the stuff."'

Morin was booked at Salt Lake County jail.

I have to disagree. I can understand their concern, but regardless this is still their father. I think they could have handled this with involving the law. This is only going to create more problems.

I wonder how you boardies would have handled this situation?

I am thankful I never had to deal with selfish druggie (or killer) parents.

I think it's terrible that any parent would subject children to it. They shouldn't be smoking it to begin with much less around kids. Having to live with that smell and the side effects it has on the parent using it is a horrible price to have to pay for the children. Having to smell the God awful stuff and see it - ugh!

What would have been the better thing to do?

Seems to me the kids were only visiting their father, which means they probably live with their mother. If they father cant quit that crap long enough for a visit with his children then he deserved what he got. If my children went to their fathers for the weekend and he was drinking and smoking pot I would want them to do the same thing.

what he wants to do on his own time is his own business, but when his kids are around that is unacceptable.

But I would think you'd not want your kids to visit their dad unless he stopped doing pot.

I live by the no snitching rule in regards to this kind of stuff. I can definitely understand the kid turning him in though. It's not fun living with someone like this, I know that firsthand, as I'm sure many of you know as well. It gets old really fast.
