Joey Chestnut Wins Hot Dog Eating Competition for Fifth Consecutive Year

Joey Chestnut downed 62 hot dogs in 10 minutes to win the 96th Annual Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Competition for the fifth year in a row, according to The Associated Press.

Chestnut, who won $10,000 for his efforts, beat second-place finisher Patrick Bertoletti by nine hot dogs. However, Chestnut did fall short of his own 68 hot dog record.

"I felt great!" Chestnut told reporters after the competition.





For the first time ever, the competition was broken into two different divisions for men and women.

Sonya Thomas, aka the "Black Widow" of competitive eating, won the competition with 40 hot dogs.




Takeru "Tsunami" Kobayashi, who was arrested after rushing the stage at last year's competition, did not compete this year.

Instead, he held his own competition, during which he downed 69 hot dogs in 10 minutes, which would have been a new world record.

I feel the same way. I'm amazed that someone can actually eat that much without throwing up. There's no way I'd be able to keep it down. Atleast here they're eating regular food, not like that show that they sometimes have on ESPN, The Glutton Bowl, where guys eat sticks of butter, and bowls full of mayonnaise. I don't care if someone offered me a million dollars, there ain't no way I'd do that for any amount of money.

Eating (or drinking) anything to the EXTREME excess that this shows depict is just plain nauseating - even just thinking about it makes me queezy. As someone who was once a walking human garbage can, and who know has medical issues because of it - I am sensitive to "inappropriate" eating - and repulsed by it!

I'm so sorry to hear that, I really am. I'm having to deal with my wreckless behavior now as well. Last time I was in the hospital a few months ago, one of the nurses told my mom, that I was a very very sick person, both physically, and mentally. Because of my wreckless behavior, drinking coca cola the way most people drink water, taking 14 different medications a day for over 10 years, going up to a week at a time without eating, and then when I actually would eat, it was always poison. Hamburgers, french fries, tacos, you name it. From abusing drugs and alcohol for the last five years. I thought it was pretty cool at the time, but I certainly don't think it's too cool now. Some days I'm so sick that I can barely get out of bed. It's destroyed my looks, and it's destroyed my life in many ways. I have taken so many years off of my life because of my behavior, and I have nobody to blame but myself. I wish I could go back in time and do things differentely, but all I can do now is take better care of myself, and hope that I can add a few years to my life in the process. I made a couple jokes in this thread, but the reality is, I know how deadly serious this is. Humor is my way of dealing with it sometimes. I'm TRULY sorry that you are going through what you're going through. I will pray for you, and I hope you have a long long life! God Bless!
