Default Hallmark Pulls Empty Nest

I was stunned when I looked up Empty Nest on Zap2it.com and found out that the Hallmark channel abruptly pulled it from their lineup. Just as early as a week ago, they had practically the whole month scheduled with episodes. I was very surprised to find out that it said, "We're sorry, there are no broadcasts of this TV show in the next two weeks." When I saw that message, I went directly to the website that would know more in detail (i.e. the news board here at sitcomsonline).

What I don't understand is why would they pull this show from their line-up at all, and in its replacement show grotesquely over-available and overplayed reruns of other shows in its place? Don't get me wrong. I like I Love Lucy, but it is grotesquely overplayed AND on other networks. Empty Nest is a rarity, grotesquely underplayed, and is the only classic TV show EXCLUSIVELY available on the Hallmark channel. After all the last time its reruns were pulled were from the WGN satellite network 11 years ago.

What I would like to know (Pavan), is if Hallmark is pulling this show temporarily or altogether. I mean will it be gone for a time and then brought back in the fall, or will they keep it locked up until their rights expire and give it back to Buena Vista?

This show in syndication unfortunately has the same luck its sister show Benson (another WITT THOMAS HARRIS show) has experienced. Hardly anybody my age has ever heard of it, and if by some chance it ever came out on DVD, there is most likely no way it would ever go beyond one season.

I know you covered it a few days ago, but have you talked to someone at Hallmark about it? How long does Hallmark have the rights to this show? Do you know?

I hope it comes back. I'll have my cable back soon and can tape the show.

I agree. They should have never taken off this show. What, Hallmark can at least give one hour for Empty Nest? They need those crappy pet shows and the endless hrs. of The Golden Girls, Cheers and Frasier? I Love Lucy and The Golden Girls as much as the next person but they are on way too much. To me, when they put the endless hrs. of Golden Girls, I Love Lucy, Frasier, Cheers, thats just being lazy in my opinion.

I agree it sucks, there is no point to watching Frasier, Cheers or I Love Lucy on Hallmark when I can watch them on local channels that have 2-3 more minutes of the show then the cut up Hallmark versions.

Empty Nest was literally the only reason to watch Hallmark over the past few years

I'm so freaking mad Hallmark pulled this show. I loved this show when I was growing up. And, I missed the last episode (I have never seen it) Because it aired 5 days after my dad died. Needless to say....I wasn't up to watching TV. So, I guess since they pulled this in the 5th season (Right after Lisa Rieffel started as Emily) I guess I will never see the finale! UGH!

They could take off those pet and cooking shows and put an hour of Empty Nest on. I mean, if I wanted to watch those type of shows I'd watch animal planet and food network. I watch Halmark because I want to watch some of the older sitcoms. I used to watch Empty Nest when it was on and always liked it. I was glad to see Halmark put it back on.
I love Golden Girls and I Love Lucy. I'm glad they have several episodes of these shows on. But, I dislike all the cooking and animal shows. I'd rather they bring back the sitcoms like Empty Nest.

They should add it to the Hallmark Movie Channel. They already air Matlock and Murder, She Wrote, so the channel name is just that, a name.

I had no idea about this. Add it to the pile of sitcoms that distribution wants nothing to do with and that you can find on sketchy, pop-up filled file sites.
