Default Gloria's crying............"Only Negative on the show"

Damm I hated seeing her looking lke a ****** and crying like a 2 year and was supposed to be a grown woman. I wonder if she ever watched herself looking like a IDIOT on TV when she had crying parts.

Sometimes the crying got to me too, I have to say. My dad used to HATE it when Gloria cried like that.

I think, though, that it was supposed to be part of Gloria's character that no matter how old she got, she was always a bit of a "Daddy's girl" who would cry or whine to get her way and the exaggerated crying was part of that; kind of immature but in character.

I always thought she was copying "Lucy Ricardo". Lucille Ball used to cry like that on "I love Lucy" and she was older than Gloria!
Sometimes it was funny, but she did look a little ridiculous. But living in that house with Archie, Edith and Mike, I would be crying out in frustration as well

I agree, she was Daddy's little girl & had him wrapped around her finger and the crying usually made Archie give in to whatever she wanted. She was one smart cookie.

There was probably some discussion when she first did it like that and someone stupidly gave the ok because it was like Lucy. At least it seems like she was going for Lucy. Whatever, it was it was turn-the-channel horrible whether it was Lucy or Sally. I think Sally could have done better and they shouldn't have let her do it the way she did. It made her look like a copycatting hack.

I thought she was always trying to copy Lucy as well, but Lucy was hysterically funny when she did it. Gloria was just ridiculous.

Gloria for the most part WAS annoying when she cried, I have come extremely close to muting her cries at times.

Haven't seen I Love Lucy, so can't comment on that.

I agree with you. Lucy Ricardo doing it makes me laugh, but for some reason Gloria doing it gets under my skin. Perhaps it's because that behavior just doesn't fit with the character. Or perhaps it seems too phony when she does it. Apart from that, though, I like Sally Struthers as Gloria.

I thought Gloria's crying was funny--along with the studio audience.

I couldn't stand her crying either. I think that Sally Struthers is just not that good of an actress altogether. Perhaps she performed exaggerated, over-the-top crying because she was incapable of performing one that actually looks real.
