Default N@N summer marathons of 2011........"WTF????

One question and Two comments about this marathon.

1. Why do the marathons start so late? 11pm? Didn't they they start at 9pm in 2002?

It's a shame that Family Matters couldn't get a night during the week over tHat 70's Show or My Wife and Kids.

Also......I'm surprised the Nanny didn't two nights during the week

I think they are trying to shift The Nanny over to TV Land, especially with Friends coming this fall.

I agree that 11pm is late. If they can't start them much earlier, 10pm would be better.

9pm is really the normal time. 9pm to 1am. And I'm surprised Friends is coming to N@N since it's not a family Show.,

Frankly, neither is That '70s Show.

Nick at Nite is going the Cartoon Network route because it's profitable: airing adult programming at night. If Friends does well, expect Nick at Nite to try stealing The King of Queens from TV Land in 2013.

And, Nick at Nite is clearly not starting marathons until 11pm because George Lopez and That '70s Show are ratings champions from 9-11pm, even if unannounced it seems obvious, and ratings champs will help pull viewers into the marathons.

I'm glad Everybody Hates Chris and Malcolm in The Middle are off the schedule. They never belonged on Nick at Nite in the first place, IMO.

It's been all downhill since they stopped doing Block Party Summer after summer 2000

I thought it was a summer block party in 2002?

I don't think they will try to steal 'Queens' - TV Land obviously wants it to go with Everybody Loves Raymond. TV Land needs it badly...they need more shows now, and definitely will in 2 years.

I think KoQ should have gone to Nick at Nite then TV Land, instead of Spike then TV Land.

TVFactFan, I think the marathons in 2002 were Summer Camp.

No... the last summer they actually ran it under the Block Party Summer title was 2000. They had similar programming for awhile after that under different titles including the Un-real-a-thon and Summer Camp

I think I remember promos from 2002 that promoted the Summer Camp - seems like it involved canoes and cabins with banjo music or something. I'm sure it's on tape somewhere around here.

You don't have to be sarcastic! I don't know if you've ever seen the show, but I don't think excessive pot use and discussion about sex constantly qualifies as traits of a "family show". Family Guy, albeit animated is a show that revolves around the Griffin family and their neighbors, but would you call that a "family show"? I think not.

Yeah, 2000 was the last really good summer they had. I think the marathons were 9PM-2AM and then 2AM-6AM or something very close to that. Like if they announced Lucy Tuesdays, I think it was, that would be the 9-2AM one but there would be another show after. Kinda fuzzy on the details but I'm pretty sure that's how it worked.

2001 was that year they had Diff'rent Strokes, ALF, etc but did those SUPER ANNOYING fun facts that kept making popping noises and coming all over the screen. I wanted to read them, but then I couldn't listen to the show too lol.

2002 they had Kids Say the Darndest Things from 9-10 then they had Three's Company, Cheers, Family Ties late at night and what were the other shows? OHHHH COSBY SHOW! That's when we all thought cuz Cosby owned a small share or whatever that he was making them constantly air Cosby Show. Definitely went downhill hard in 2002.

As much as Cosby aired, I don't think any show aired as much as Fresh Prince did back in the day. I still believe Will Smith owned some portion of Nick at Nite back then. I blame that show for being the sole reason NAN got rid of the 9pm-2am/2am-6am marations, mainly because they wanted to air Fresh Prince all night long for 4 nights a week. And the constant wall-to-wall marathons? While George Lopez gets a lot, NAN has been MUCH better with proportioning its airings.

But I sure do miss the 9-2/2-6 marathons they used to do. Much more variety, especially in the days where they had shows like Murphy Brown, Who's the Boss?, NewsRadio, A Different World, Mad About You, and whatever else as a part of the block. Even Roseanne and Cosby were welcome additions to the schedule. That, IMO, was the best summer of NAN....around 2005, I believe.

Up until 2000, the Block Party Summer was just for three hours each night (either 8PM-11PM, 8:30PM-11:30PM, or 9PM-12AM) and it sometimes repeated in the overnight. The 9-2/2-6 thing wasn't until like 2004, 2005, etc. But you're right about the annoyingness of 2001

The 2000 Block Party Summer was Lucy Sundays, Andy Griffith Mondays, Gilligan Tuesdays, Hillbilly Wednesdays, Brady Bunch Thursdays, and Party Crasher Fridays (different show each week). It had a great jingle too!
