Default Got A Question About A Season 1 Episode

I don't remember if it's the episode Birds gotta fly fish gotta talk, but there was one where the skipper was using the transmitter to talk to a Woman in a plane passing over head. Does that episode make anyone think of Amelia Earhart? It was a very good episode but the Woman in the plane reminded so much of Amelia Earhart. Maybe it's just me.

I know the episode you mean. It was "Goodnight, Sweet Skipper" and they were trying to contact the Vagabond Lady.
I have to say though, Amelia Earhart, never crossed my mind.

I always thought she sounded like Wilma Flintstone. I wonder if Jean VanderPyl did the voice.

It probably wouldn't have crossed my mind either if it didn't remind me of an Amelia Earhart skit on Unsolved Mysteries. And yes it did sound like Wilma's voice. It may have been or may not have been her. I guess that's something we will never find out for sure, unless we can become friends with Sherwood Shwartz.

I thought of Amelia Earhart too, though I do hope Alice MacNeal (aka The Vagabond Lady) had a good map and a better navigator!

And I suppose Wrongway could be thought of as a male equivalent of Amelia, since he and his plane vanished in the Pacific.

Me too, in fact I always thought it was meant to be a reference to Amelia Earhart.

Coincidentally Wrongway Feldman is the next episode of the series.

BTW, "TV Treasures - GI" doesn't list who provided the voice. They list a lot of other uncredited guests, but not on this one.

I thought of Amelia...don't exactly have a finger on who did voice there..

Here are those who WERE ALSO featured, regartding unbilled guests

Parrot-Herb Virgan, Mel Blanc.

Red-headed phone operator ("You've Been Disconnected")-Sandra Gould. Some five years ago thought one of the others in that episode were Bernard Fox or Jerry Hausner, due to the "Caryu Grant" voice..very good choice, but I don't know..

ANY of the odd creatures - Janos Prohaska

Radio announcers - Charles Maxwell, Chick Hearn (yes, the Chick Hearn)

Actually, Wrongway Feldman was a parody of Douglas "Wrongway" Corrigan.

Speaking of radio announcers, after listening to the announcer on Pass the Vegetables Please my immediate thought was Whit Bissell from Time Tunnel.

Someone suggested that the voice of Alice Mcneal (The Vagabond Lady) was Ida Lupino who directed this episode, and may have doubled as the voice of the Vagabond Lady, but this can neither be denied nor confirmed because there is not record of the actress who voiced the lady, and since there were no unions in place back then, the TV shows were not obligated to print the actresses name in the credits. I you tubed a video of Ida Lupino and listened to her voice but still am unsure. It could be her if she raised voice as if she were talking on a radio, or it may not be.
I have been googling myself to the moon trying to find some kind of record, and all I find is the Director, which is again, Ida Lupino, and after that? It's a dead end. I guess one poster was right in saying. "We may never know who the Vagabond Lady was" And like Amelia Earhart, we may never know what happened to her. The only other thing I can think of, is I can write Dawn or Russel, if he's in good enough health, and ask one of them if they remember who she was. My curiosity is begging me to do that. I really would like to know who played the Vagabond Lady.

So the TV industry had no unions back then? When did SAG come about?
